Default Locater call?

I know it has been talked about before, but which is better, owl or crow?

If it is early in the morning where it is still alittle dark i use a owl. If it is light out i would just start using your turkey calls to get a response.

What owl call do you use? I posted about the Primos Power Owl and I can only make it sound like a duck with any volume. Very very soft I can make it hoot. Any opinions?

Ihaven't had any luck with either. Peacock scream and woodpecker work the best for me.

Like anything with turkey calling it depends on the turkey.
Owls usually call before daybreak and crows anytime. Don't give up on them and try not to overuse them either. Make sure you can sound as good as possible before trying them. Otherwise the birds will just shut up.
If you use turkey calls to locate make sure you are in a position to set up immeadiately if they answer and are close.

I've had much more luck with a crow call than an owl, but lots will say just the opposite. Last year was the first year I ever got a response to an owl call.

Early morning, while it's till dark I use the owl call. When I hear the first crow of the morning sound off, I begin to use a crow call if needed.

even though there are TONS of crows around i can almost always shock gobble them with my crow call. ive heard them gobble to REAL owls. never used an owl hooter. heard them gobble to dang near anything..trains, thunder(that was a GOOD locator), peacock scream, yote holes etc etc...but the only thing i carry and use is my crow call.

I do a really good owl call with my mouth. Sounds waaay better than those owl calls you buy. Last year i used this method and had prolly around 10 different birds gobble. Right before daylight is when it works the best.
