Default What choke/ shotsize?

I'm just starting out turkey hunting this year. I have never tried the turkey shells or Xfull choke before and don't know which combo will work. I have awinchester 1300 12 ga., I was thinking about getting primosjelly head turkey chokebut don't know what brand and shot size to use with it to be effected out to 35 yards.

What kind of choke and shot size do you use for turkey?

I use a HS Undertaker choke tube and Hevi13 No. 6's in my Rem 11-87. It patterns great for me but that may not be the case for you. While I recommend this tube and loads to people, you also have to try other loads and possibly tubes to find what will pattern best in your gun. I know other guys with remingtons who dont like the way the undertaker patterns. You just got to get out there and try different combos till you find what gives you the best pattern.

Undertaker is a good choke and you don't have to pay huge bucks to geta good turkey choke.

I use hevi shot #5's

You may need to try a few different loads to see what patterns best in your gun.

I use either my 835 with an HS Strut undertaker tube and Winchester Super #4 in 3.5 inch.
Or I use my Remington 870 Wingmaster TB with the old trap barrle on it and fire #6 field loads.

My older BPS has the same choke system as your 1300. I got an Undertaker and am very pleased with the patternsat 40 yds. I got the regular lead shot versionand it shoots any Winchester 3" turkey load well.

I did shoot with an undertaker, but the Jellyhead patterned better for me using Rem. Hevi shot magnums. ( 3 1/2 5 shot) Hevi 13's do pretty well also with either choke.

I use a 1300 with the factory full choke and most loads that I've tried pattern well to 30 yds. and some are good to 35. If you want to go past 35 you will probably do better with a turkey choke. I use Fed. #4 3" Flite control lead and the 35 yd. pattern looks good. At 40 it is unacceptable. The same brand in #6 shot does pattern acceptably to 40, but I've been led to believe that lead 6 shot carries enough less energy at 40 yds to make a difference. None of this matters a lot because the 3 turkeys taken by this gun have been at 19, 23 and 21 yards. Have fun experimenting!

I use the xtra full choke that came with my870 and 3 1/2 inch no. 5's. I switched from no. 4's to 5's to get a few more pellets flying at 'em, patterns better for me. I'm looking at getting a new choke, may try that undertaker or jellyhead. Good luck on your first turkey season, maybe you'llbust a limbhanger.
