RE: choke or not?
ABSOLUTELY! You want as tight a pattern as possible. I use a Hastings "turkey full" (I think it is, going by memory here) in my Rem 870 Turkey Special. When I patterned it, at 30yrds I had over 300 Pellets in a 12 in circle.
Make sure you pattern the gun as well. All shells don't shoot the same. I bet I shot 4 or 5different brands before I found the one that works the best.
Those crazy birds are way too hard to call in, the last thing you wanta do is miss it after you did all that work.

RE: choke or not?
All guns shoot differently. Just because someone else uses a particular choke on their gun, even the same model as yours, doesn't mean you should.
Pattern your gun to find out.
Get a 3x3 piece of butcher paper. Put it up at the typical yardage you think you'll shoot at. Shoot the paper. This will you give you an idea of how many pellets are getting into a particular area.
Now, I'm not an experienced turkey hunter, so I'm not sure what the best pattern would be.
But there is no substitute for doing this a few times, with each type and brand of shell you'll use, so you can see what your gun is actually doing.
Maybe some of the other folks can shed more light on this -- what percentage of the pellets should be in what sized circle for the best turkey dose???
