RE: Remove Ticks Easily
The permanone not only does a good job on ticks, but also chiggers - the little beasts reminded methe other week the consequences (intense itch) of wearing untreated jeans while walking through tallgrass.
I was treated twice for lyme's in the distant past -I waspulling embedded ticks almostdaily in spite of using both permanone and deet. One tick slipped by my survelliance andgave me abig bullseye rash. Igot the lyme's vacine when it was available several years ago - it was taken off the market because some people reacted badly to it (paralysis?), fortunately I was not one of them. Lyme (and tick bites) should be taken seriously - I havea friend messed up physically and anotherfriend with neurological problemsbecause of lyme. My niece also had a close call with Rocky Mt spotted fever, another tick-borne disease. -fsh |

RE: Remove Ticks Easily
I have never tried the soap trick but using tweezers I have had the head break off before. So I would be using something else to aid in the removal
to help get the head out to. |
RE: Remove Ticks Easily
Folks,
As an entomologist that has north and south in some tick and chigger infested places and have tried everything- there is no better protection than Permanone or Duranone (active ingredient is Permethrin - the insecticide). Before this hit the marketan old cotton entomologist that I hunted with in NC turned me on to it (then the army started using it and it hit the mainstream)How do you use it? Just follow the directions, more is not better!!, I've had my various spring hunting outfits treated with this stuff for years, I reapply each spring just to be sure but this product will last through several washes. Is it safe? Well, its safer than a Tickborne disease Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Lyme, or other and unless you have had a whopping case of chiggers (I'm talking hundreds imbedded in your legs at once) you don't know what itching is! Furthermore, its the same insecticide farmers have been spraying on thier fields for many many years, so if your eating food from the USA then you've been exposed plenty to this chemical. As with all chemicals though, its up to the individual. I simply don't go in the woods without it in the spring. Now, if you are worried about the smell as a deer hunter or something then thats something you have to deal with (or not), but once this stuff dries its odorless to us (at least). For the scent freaks out there you wil have to make your own call. One last suggestion - again, this isn't always possible, but talking a shower every evening after you come out of the woods and checking yourself (yep in the private parts as well!!) will catch many a tick that does make it past the barrier. I'm amazed at the calls I get of folks that find a tick that has been imbedded in thier back for a week since they had been in the woods! Just check yourself good in the evening before you go to bed!! Hope this helps, Hootnscoot |

RE: Remove Ticks Easily
Good advise from all for sure!!....One more thing I'd like to add from my own misfortune is If you've been in the woods all day not only take good care of your own body but the rest of your family too including your own housepets. What I mean is dont just toss your cloths in the hamper or in the dirty cloths pile because trust me one of your family members or pets will end up picking them up from inside the house. This is one of the major reasons I have multiple camo outfits except for my boots, jacket, and turkey vest. They stay outside in a easily dry accessible place such as my garage...The inside of your vehicle is another great place to store ticks if you throw all your camo in there too!Got in big trouble for that one taking my wife to lunch after a good mornings hunt and she found 3 ticks crawling on her during lunch in the restaurant!![:-]Anyway good hunting all.....
