Snake Boots

I live in copperhead country. My kids have seen 3 the last 2 summers right in my neighborhood. One was by my mailbox. A kid not too far from here got bitten by one. I realize that copperheads are not very deadly, but I could step on one and I might have a long walk back. After spring greenup you cant even see your feet walking thru the woods. Do any of y'all have snake boots? What kind do you have? how do you like them? Also has anyone seen a poisonous snake while hunting?

RE: Snake Boots

Natty, I have a pair of Rocky snake boots. So far I like them. But, I havent wore them out hunting yet. I got them for Christmas, I have only been wearing them around the house to try and break them in a bit. Some guys didnt like them because of the way they fit and some didnt like them because the pair they had wasnt water proof, the boots are supposed to be. Anyway, I think my boots would stop a copperhead, but a 4 foot rattle snake is a nother story IMO. There is also snake proof chaps you can buy. There are timber rattlers and copper heads where I hunt, never seen them. But the boot is going to give me a little bit of rest wearing them this spring. I just hope a big timber rattler doesnt strike me. <img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle> Take care.

Natty,I wear the snake chaps and think they are just awesome.Mine are made by Rattlers brand and cover the whole length of my leg.It is adjustable as to length by a strap that buttons to your belt. You can walk right through any briar patch too without them thorns a sticken the tar out of ya.I wore mine hunting in Texas last year and walked right through that prickly pear without being stuck. The only down fall is they are a little warm, but to me were well worth the price about $65.00.You can check em out at HuntSmart.com. :)

I also wear the Rocky snake boots. Work fine for me, a little hot in the late season, but better than a snake bite.

I was never too concerned until last year when 24 rattlers were killed brobably within half mile from my camp in Pa. It was dry and they came down to get water, during the course of the summer. Now I need to get something, I was considering chaps, but I have an old pair of my Trooper boots that go almost to the knee and are leather, should work,if they still fit after 20 years....

I have both rattle snakes and copperheads in my turkey woods. I have never worn snake boots. I just try to stay out of there area I know they are at and have seen them at. As for deadly if you are allergic reaction to bee stings it is very deadley. Take care and look before you sit.
