Tell Me Again Why I Do This??

Well, these couple of birds have been driving me crazy. I have to drive 1.5 hours to get to my friends farm, and usually they're gobbling like mad on the roost in the am. First day, got set up real close to the roost, but at fly down, hens yelping away on the other side of the roost so thats where he went. After the first day, I thought I had them figured out, and thankfully got a bird. After that they got me all messed up again. Once or twice a week, I keep either setting up on the wrong side of the roost tree, hens get the better of me, or they just are somewhere else. Well, I finally found a common denominator. The last couple of weeks, it seems they always visit the cow pasture. Last saturday, I couldn't believe the amount of gobbling going on from 2 birds. At fly down, they again went away, and I followed them. They were going nuts in this cow pasture, but on the other side of a stone wall. I should probably tried to make a move on them, but tried to call them instead. No luck. oh, and once they leave, they head onto property I don't have permission to hunt... Well, I couldnt believe how much gobbling was going on Saturday, and I did scope out this pasture to see where I could set-up. I found what I thought was the perfect place, and I headed there today. Of course, today is the day they decided to change patterns. The landowner couldnt believe there was no gobbling on the roost at all. They roosted somewhere else! One lone hen was hanging out in the pasture, nothing else but a big mean looking bull and his cows. I heard some gobbling on the property across the street. Skunked again. Tried a wma on the way home, nothing there either. Waking up at 2:30. driving 1.5 hours, birds getting the better of me Most times... Why do I keep at it? Suppose im just a hopeless addict. At least I have one on the season so far with maybe one more shot at that cow pasture on Saturday.

thats turkey huntin for ya! atleast you got one...last year i got up danged near every morning at 4am...hunted till 730am...went to school till 11 or 12 depending on weather or not i skipped my last class...which i did all too often and still got an A....THEN went to work 11-4 or 12-5 depending on weather or not i skipped class...THEN alot of the days i had to work from 5 or 6 till around 11 or so...get home at around midnite...shower..eat...goto bed and do it all over....never did kill a turkey...i got hung up hunting ONE big ole bosstom...he taught me ALOT though....one of them birds that wasnt patternable...roosted with half a dozen hens..i had many many close calls....a better choke and shell i would had him dead but i didnt take the shots....i knew better...but he beat me.....i think hunting the same birds often teaches them more then we know...although he never busted me i think he knew i was there..if i would been able to sit longer and wait i bet my luck would changed....but the saturdays and other days i could hunt longer he still beat me...my buddy is a newbie turkey hunter...and he got hung up on him this season.....told him not to do it....the bird would drive him nuts..sure enough hes going nuts....and he doesnt know enough to outsmart him...and kills his chances before the hunt starts....soon as he gets there the bird is gobbling(early gobbler...same as last year) and my buddy sets up and calls to every gobble....told him not to do it...but i know him and it would kill him not to call to a bird that is gobbling....its gota be the same bird....i wish he wasnt hunting him all season so i could tried my hand......i learnd enough about him last year that this year i should been able to do it...but im done for the season....work the last few days....i remember getting up WAY early and driving an hour and some minutes and walking a half an hour into our spot....man that was a killer....getting up when i goto bed now lol....
