Any Luck in CT?

Opening day4-3was working some birds first thing in the morning on the edge of afield. After 5 minutes or soi called again but nothing back so i decided to move.Just wanted to better my position if they come in.I get up and start moving to another tree.As i was moving i hear the turkey alarm and look to the left and see the turkeys going away :-( If i just stayedput for a few more minutes i could haveharvested my first turkey.I wasnt to happy so i called it quits for the day.Day 2 on another field started off good but the the turkeys would not come in.The game went on for an hour or so.They took off so i decided to stay put.About half and hour goes by with nothing answering my calls.I'm still staying put :-) about 8:00 i call again and i get and answer coming behind me so i turn around and see 8 Toms about 150 yards away and coming fast from another field so i get into another position.Man,was i so happy to see them strut for the first time while hunting. The position i was in i couldnt move and the gun was killing me holding it up.Finally they got within 40 yardsin the open field and take 2 of them down.Had to take two because of yesterday:-) If i didnt have 3 tags i would have taking one.

How are the rest of you guys in CT doing?

Had a nice tom strut in a field yesterday, would not budge from his 5 lady friends. Later on in the day, called in a mess of jakes, I counted 8. Just out of range at noon...

Set-up this morning closer to the roosted birds. Set out the dekes. Called in three jakes right off the roost, to within 10 yards. Had them going bezerk, and they fired up some others that had worked into a field.

I called aggressively and pulled those birds in, only to find 5 more jakes at 10 yards. They eventually worked off...I thought I might have had an actual longbeard working in the distance, but after an hour (and 72 degree weather), I decided to call it a day at ~9.

Lotta season left, should have some nice weather next week I hope, as 80+ degrees is never good for turkey hunting this early in the season...

Were those longbeards you harvested artie, or jakes?

Heard & saw a bunch of birds. Had 5 or 6gobbling on roost first thing. They decided to bypass our set up / ambush! Saw lots of strutters in fields, but couldn't get anywhere w/ them.

Had a few gobbling on the roost this am, then came that dreded sound just about fly down time... Yelp yelp yelp yelp yelp... coming from the other side of the roost trees. I did manage to call one in about an hour later, but he wouldnt take a step closer than 70-80 yards... Ill try again tomorrow

Hunted East Hampton today. Had 3 birds gobbling on the roost today, 2 close and one a bit further away. Yesterday, I set up on the right of the roost trees and a hen started yelping at fly down time and the birds went with her. Today, I stayed on the left of the roost trees because I found out that that's on the way of one of their preferred travel routes. Well, of course, I had 2 of those birds hot and gobbling, and i shut up to wait for fly down. Of course, a hen calls from their right, and down they go to the other side. In fact, birds seemed to fly down all over the place, mostly hens I guess. Well, shortly after fly down, I hear some leaves crunching, its a hen. She fed her way past me at about 7 yards. About 10 min later, here he comes, silent. He's down the bottom of the hill at about 45 yards. He was on his way to the bordering property, probably to come up the hill and across. I gave a couple clucks on my mouth call cuz 45 is kinda far, he just stopped, looked, then went on his way. I figured this may be now or never, so I clucked one more time, and his neck looked just right in those cross hairs... Bam, he went down. Stats- 20.5 pounds, 9 1/2 inch beard, and spurs were 1" each. Had 2 more gobbling hard, so I tried for #2. Had him hot and close, then 2 hens got between us and that was that. Good day.

The toms are henned up where I'm hunting. They're staying on a neighboring farm and not moving around much. Hunted 4 days and my partner took a jake. It's been real tuff so far.

So they can eat the turkeys. Shoot the sucker anyway. It will be one less problem for the turkeys. Just don't get caught. In La. we can shoot them year round.
