I have a theory....Remember when you were younger and spent the night out all night chasing women....The next day...you would kinda take it easy....maybe they were just "hung over"...

Mauser,

Although weather systems can shut birds down, strong pressure systems often bring drastic changes. I believe you probably had the remnants of the low system that pushed in off the coast, which would have reached you sometime last night/early this morning. This can quiet down the birds.

May also indicate the post-breeding lull. I've noticed that many PA hunters are noting bachelor groups, which would indicate most of the hens have been bred and are beginning to devote large amounts of time to nesting. If that's the case, by the end of next week those boys will be rested and ready to resume "action"...

PS> Come to CT and hunt...we get 3 tags with our private land permit...I hunt everyday until they're filled (but like you, we get Sunday's off courtesy of the State regs [:@] )

I was out this morning, and this past teusday, and both mornings the woods were asquiet as a Church!! Strange for the first week of the season here in NY??? Usually that happens in the middle of the month!! Well hopefully, this "gobbling lull" won't last long!!
I have to work this weekend, but will be off after tuesday!! Maybe by then things will start to pick up.
