ORIGINAL: geterdun

I was just wandering, how many years did it take you guys to kill your first bird. Did you do it alone? With a partner who was calling? ETc. this is my 2nd year of hunting and i havent got one (yet )and i was just wandering how long it took you guys to get your first. thanks alot
Took me 2 season before I shot my first "WILD TURKEY"(self tought)

That was 13 years ago and the hunting pressure was a lot less than it is now

Good luck on those public land Gobblers

One - been at 19 yrs - have hunted several states some with success - but I ususally get a bird each year.

Last year I was 3 for 5 out of the times I could hunt. The last 2 - I could have killed a Jake and don't do that any more. Just me..

My first was in 1952 with a Winchester mod 12, 20ga. Which I still have.We didnt have all this modern stuff you have today. We made our ownHawk screech calls and Quail calls out of CoCa-Cola caps. No camo clothing either and we still got within 20-25yds.

This season will be my third season, and I've yet to connect.
Me to this is my third season.
I keep getting close.
But you know close only counts with
Horse shoes and hand granades.

I keep going Im bound to get one.
I will keep trying anyway.
I think I need to go to another spot.
Public Land is hard to hunt turkeys.
Espesaly when you are starting out.

Some Day Some Sweet Day

Opening Day.But those were unpressured birds on private land.I got spoiled.I got a few every year, but really didn't start doing good until around my 5th year.I've been hunting public land for the last 4 years, and it has taught me alot.It took alot of hard lessons.Good luck to you!

you wont believe it....but i practiced with my calls for the first two years i was interested in turkey hunting...then...i felt i was ready and called in my first gobbler and harvested him...that was the opening day fifteen years ago...from season to season i make that choice differently each time...i've had toms and jakes in front of me first day and either have taken them or let them go...

I got one my first season 6 years ago by myself. But this was after some great training from a turkey hunting mentor who just happened not to be able to go with me that morning.
