Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Cows

I hunt in on the edge of a field in the woods and I set my decoys a few yards outside the fence. Last year I had a lot of trouble with cows coming up to my decoys and knocking them over. I wasthinking about using a slingshot. Does anyone else have this problem?

I like the slingshot idea but it probably wouldn't phase them. Can't the landowner pen them up for the morning? The cows are probably used to turkeys moving when they are approched.

LAst year my father in law was sitting in a thicket and the cows started moving in. He said he sat there looking around at the cattle and then he noticed a gobbler walkingwith the cattle. Patiences, needless to say that bird took a ride home with us..I have seen turkeys flip cow patties over picking seed out of them. I can also see how they could creat a problem. Good luck

Where I hunt, cows are a GOOD thing . . . at least they are when there's corn in their feed. The turkeys actually follow where the cows have been looking for corn in the patties. The years that the cows are in different areas makes my usual areas far less productive.

cows are satin's lap dogs...lol
they chase me EVERYTIME i see one...and they usually they end up callin' all the other cows as well.
i've turned non believers into believers...ended up gettin' bear spray to protect me..thankfully i always got away from them without dying of a heart attack and without using the spray.
hope you figure it out.

you werent here last year....so ill tell a short story for you....i had a BIG old bosstom....king of the woods...roosted with all the hens.....big thick long rope...first time i hunted him i found him at his strut zone already..on the edge of a pasture..snuck in set up...i could see him but he was backwards when i set up....i fired him up...had him going nuts....i was on the top of a hill behind me....after a half hour he decided to come over....hed come 10yds towards me...5 yards back...he was only 65yds away or so to start with...so after another 15-30 mins or so he finally made it to about 45yds or so....he came towards me but 20yds to my left..he was coming the extra couple yard...clicked off the saftey....here he comes...im ready....all the sudden i hear a stamped through the woods...and he took off running...wtf?? all the sudden the herd of cows came charging up the hill at my big boy....first and last CLOSE encounter with him......i dont think they particularly LIKE the turkeys there because the turkeys go and eat from their trouph...but i dont know.....they sure didnt want that bird to come visit me!!!
