Shooting steel shot in an old Ithaca.
#1
Does anyone know if it's ok to shoot Remington Hevi Magnum Steel shot in a 1950s model 37 Ithica 12 guage 2 3/4 inch? I 've written Ithaca but just wondered if any of you would know that information. Also ..when pattering a shotgun at 30 yds. What would be the least amount of shot in a 2 inch circle that you guys would except. I shot Winchester Turkey Loads today # 4s using my Ithaca modified. I only had 7 pellets in the 2 " circle.
Thanks,

I wouldn't do it. Repeated steel shooting can damage the choke. Do you know where the shotgun is choked? Modified, Improved, Full? I've got a mid 50's Remington pump and will only use lead. Just not worth ruining a vintage weapon.
I'd say 7 shots in a 2" at 30 yards is very adequite. I know that 2 or 3 at 50+ yards will bring down a goose.

I was told to not shoot steel in my old ithaca by some shhotgun-savy shooters. it's not official word from ithaca but i got a hard-core no on that question and it's not as old as your gun.

Thanks Josh,
I need to buy one of those Ithica walnut stocks off of ebay .The stock is down to splinters.
I would try to refinish but worried there won't be much left after sanding.LOL
