Shooting in Strut

This is quite true, that is, unless your bullet is a Hammerhead tipped arrow @ 300 FPS!
Actually, there are a couple of negatives for doing this, although it can work. 1st, you have a MUCH smaller target. They hunker their head down amongst all those feathers making it quite hard to hit. 2nd, if you do, you will almost certainly put some shot in the breast. Watch out for those, they hurt the teeth pretty bad. 3rd, as mentioned, you can blast the heck outta their tail.

I was always told a turkey in strut is bulletproof.

Yeah..I would go with a cluck and try to bring him out of it...gives you much more target.
I have seen my fair share of birds put down by a struttin shot though, seems to kill em dead, espeically with the hevi-shot and its relatives.
If a cluck doesnt work, a simple yip from your mouth will make him pull up that snood and come outta strut.
A warning though, if you dont use a turkey noise to bring em out you best be ready to shoot, had a friend say, "Hi" to a bird, and when he came outta strut he waited for the shot a little too long. Bird saw him and ran.
