Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Last weekend was KY's youth hunt (4/1-4/2). I took out a boy from my church and he killed a bird and we were out of the woods by 6:20am. Bird had a 10 1/4 beard, 1" spurs, and weighed 22lbs. I then took my little brother at 12pm that afternoon and he killed a bird at 2pm. Bird had 10 1/2 beard, 1" spurs, and weighed 24lbs.Took another boy Sunday and he missed a monster gobbler at 20 yards. The birds are gonna be just right for Saturday's opener. Went scouting yesterday morning and had a group of birds land infront of me. 17 hens and 8 big gobblers. Went to our farm at 9am. and birds were all over the hillsides strutting and gobbling. Gonna have some fun!

Alright here is a ? for you turkey guru's. How far can you hear a turkey gobble on the roost? Calm conditions, flat ground faily open land (farm land). I got 3 gobblers gobbling on the roost last night, they sounded far away. So I went around to the next road about .7 mile. Got out the box call and started cranking on it. Nothing. So I go back to where i was crank on it and gobbles again. So somewhere in that .7 mile is 3 roosting toms, just wondering how far their sound goes?

I have heard them gobble as far away as 3/4 of a mile. They can be decieving. They might sound far off but before you know it you are spookin them from the roost. I just like to walk into an area and walk towards the sound. CAUTION might be another hunter. Good luck

Yeah, it's pretty decieving. Usually they aren't nearly as far as they sound. It really depends on the terrain and the weather as to how far you hear them. I've heard them from as far as a mile, but generally speaking they just aren't as far as you think.

i have heard them probably 1 mile away in calm conditions on ridge tops. just passing through home and heading too Idaho for the opener tagged out in Montana and Wyoming lots of turkeys with a good mix of jakes and longbeards as always plenty of hens. I shot 3 longbeards so far for the team 1- 20# spurs 13/16, 13/16 beard 71/4 2- 21# spurs 5/8 and 5/8 beard 71/83- 22# spurs 3/4 and 11/16 beard 73/4 THE birds were all good 2 yr olds but i think there beards must have frozen over the winter and broke off the average over the years has been 8-9 inches. Also my hunting partner found a monster whitetail dead 7x9 170 class i will get some pix and post them
