Probally depends on the approaching Tom's status in the local pecking order. I doubt the tom is afraid of the jake, but he may feel that the jake is doing the biddin for a nearby Tom yet unseen that could whoop his tail.

There's a good article in "Turkey and Turkey Hunting" magazine about decoy's. I'm pretty sure it's the April edition. Every year decoy use comes up on this, and all turkey hunting conversations. This article actually had some new spins on decoys I never thought of or heard from other people.
I thought it was a good read, for what it's worth. |

I have always had a positive reaction when using a hen and jake decoy setup. It really works well early in season when the 2 and 3 yr old toms are still grouped up. They come in together to boss around the jake. The next thing they know ..............................."BANG
