Default Ever heard the saying: kill two birds with one stone!

I know all of yall have heard that saying..Well it all started like this..except..it wasnt with a stone..One morning I sitting in my blind at my old deer camp in el paso, Arkansas. Now, this spot was one of my favorites because it was like a perfect strut zone for hot gobblers. It was a little open meadow smack in the middle of some woods. It was perfect. Well i was workin two hot gobblers. And they was slowly comin in..i finally decided to stop callin and let their curiosity get the best of them. So i was just sittin there..eyes peeled..watchin everything that moved when suddenly i saw two heads pokin out of the edge of the woods into the meadow. They were studyin my decoys and then they decided to come on out. I got my gun up aimed at the one in the front..almost at the same time i shot the turkey in the back ran right up beside the other and i had dropped both of them.It was like he was tryin to save the other but that didnt happen..he just caught the crossfire and went down with his friend or enemy however you look at it. At first i was excited but then quickly realized that i had made a big mistake..but is wasnt my fault..in arkansas you can only take one bearded turkey a day. Oops. I had my friend check the other one in just to be on the safe side..but i wasnt happy about it..i felt guilty..has anyone had this happen before

Yeah, I have done it in the fall season, years ago. I shot a jake and somehow I also hit a hen. I couldnt even find a pellet hole in her. It tore me up inside.

BUT the bottom line is I knew it was my own fault. And it is, every time someone does this. I pulled the trigger. It doesnt matter if another turkey jumped, flew, or magically appeared right before the shot got there. All we can do is make sure it doesnt happen again.

This is one of those things I'm always careful about. The year before I shot my first bird, a friend in Indiana told me that he was calling for a newbe and the guy dropped 2 birds. The limit was one. My friend used his tag for the second bird. Where I hunt, its a 1 bird limit and that story and the pic of2birds down stuck with me. The following year, I had called in 2 gobblers, and they were staying together coming into my dekes. It seemed like forever, but I waited and waited until they were far enough apart that I wouldn't drop the second bird. I was extatic about getting my first gobbler. I could have just as easily not scored that day had the birds decided to walk off together, but not scoring (which happens on MOST of myhunts) would sit better with me than killing two at once, especially in a situation where its not legal. I guess some people enjoy taking multiple birds with one shot, but not me even if it is legal.

Ya, there was this one day I saw two Toms in the food plot, and it was turkey season, so I threw a baseball sized rock and hit them both in the head.......... ...LOL, sorry, I had to. That saying makes me laugh, its just one of those things. Seriously though, I had this happen to me once, a couple of years ago when I was bowhunting for turks. I had a pass through on a Tom just ending his strut, and the arrow plastered through to another Tom. I hated that it happened, but it happened and so it goes. Never had the luck, pleasure, and guilt again with a double kill like that.

Been guilty of it myself[:'(]!Easy to do really if you let the excitement get the best of you not paying attention!Seen an awful lot of video footageover the yearsthat I'm sure not only killed the featured bird but look to me like they hit other birds around the main one including hens!!![:'(]

Had it happen to me last spring... Had 3 birds come in, a gobbler and 2 jakes... They busted me at 15 yards and started to walk away... The gobbler was in the lead when they went behind a large tree... Well I expected the gobblerto be the first to come from behind the tree... It was the jakes and both there heads were perfectly side by side as to look like one...1 shot from the NEF 10ga and down they wentWas not very happy about it... Especially when I seen the Longbeard flying away...

It has not happened to me nor would I want it to even if legal.....I would rather hunt the second bird another day. I don't find it to be "cool"....if it's legal where you hunt and you want to end your season in one shot, more power to ya....
