Mossberg 500 vs. Remington 870

I'v been looking for a shotgun for a long time but have been between a Mossberg 500 Bantam 12-Gauge or a Remington 870. What do you think would be best for both Turkey and Other game birds? What length of barrel do you think is best for all game?

Hey Rebel, I also have an old Rem 870 & I was thinking of doin some Turkey huntin in the near future..It's pretty stock, so what mods do you think i'll need to do to it besides a 28 in barrel?

Garminator, your Rem 870 will do fine! The 28" barrel suggestion was for Hunter 1089, cause he asked which was the bestone for all game!
For strictly Turkey, I like 22". I likea 28"barrel for, Quail and Snipe. For Doves late in the season, I like a 30". For Ducks, I like the 30" also.Different strokes for different folks!:D:D:D

I'd go with the Rem 870 but with the 26" barrel

I like both of them.

My opinion about a "all around" barrel. DO NOT GO THIS ROUTE!!!!

I like a 24'' for turkeys b/c its easier to carry. About 99.9% of the time I turkey hunt, I am walking. I like to run and gun. It is easier to swing in case one comes in behind you. It is also A LOT easier to hold up if one hangs up. If this happens, the last thing you want to be holding up is a 28'' barrel. TRUST ME!!![:@]

Also keep in account that you are going to have a turkey choke that sticks out almost two inches. So a 24'' is really going to be almost 26'' and a 28'' is going to be a 30''.

I like a 26'' or 28'' for duck and dove hunting. A22'' or 24'' WILL BUST YOUR EAR DRUMS shooting that many times. I guess if you wore ear protection while hunting it's not bad and I would go with the 24'' in that case.

Again, just my opinion.

I have a Mossberg 535 and love it but I alos love the remington 870 sup mag. The 870 does not kick as bad as the mossy. And If you know where you are going to hunt i would serious recomend a 22 or a 24 inch barrel. They are much easier to swing in heavy cover. Either gun you can't go wrong with.

Best all around barrel - 26"

Mossberg 500 is a good gun.
