There is absolutely nothing wrong with the guns from wal mart and the 835 is an excellent choice for a turkey gun. I have several turkey guns and the 835 is my favorite. My buddies and I do some work to our guns to make them pattern better and the 835 or the new 935 with a 28" barrel usually patterns the best.

Well I'll be honest with you the 835 with a 3 1/2" turkey load is just flat out painful to shoot. I shot my first turkeys with a 12 ga when I was 10 years old but there is alot of difference in that 1/2" of load. I don't think the 12 ga is too much for your size but you may have to get used to the kick from these heavy loads. The good thing about the 835 is that if the 3 1/2" shells have too much recoil you can always shoot 3" and 2 3/4" shells out of the gun until you fell comfortable with a 3 1/2" magnum.

I bought an 835 ulti mag this spring for turkey hunting and couldn't be happier with it.

Out of the box, it patterned great out to 50 yards and I killed my two longbeards with it at ranges of 30 and 42 yards. The 42 yard one never even flopped. The 30 yard kill had no pellets below the neck line, but was completely peppered from the neck up. I didn't even notice the kick from the 3 1/2" shells during the actual hunt, but patterning them proved that they do pack a bit of a punch, but not too much if you hold it tight against your shoulder.

whitetailhunter4637, Thats a good gun and no, its not to big for you. I shot my first deer with a 12ga loaded with 3 1/2 buckshot. I was 7. You will do fine with a 12 ga. You might checkout the Benelli Nova Pump. That is what I shoot, For the money that IMO is the best gun out there right now. Check out- http://www.benelliusa.com/firearms/nova.tpl

i use a remington 1100 for both deer and turkey and wouldn't trade it for anything...it gets a lil heavy compared to some ohter guns but it's worth it.

I currently own 2 835's and love them. My wife shot her first turkey with 1 using 2 3/4 shells. It has a little kick to her but not me. I would not hunt with a different turkey gun unless someone can show (prove) to me that there is a gun that will pattern farther than that one.
