Default What is the price breakdown -Homebrews

How much is the cost of major items needed? Is it the price saving or the hobby?
I have enough hobbies, but I was wondering about any saving?

actually cost wise it may be cheaoer with a homrew...or it could be more expensive (depends on what your comparing to
to get this quality you'd spend around $500 +...this is taken by a homebrew...value around $300
uncropped..maybe just resized smaller for another forum??..took 2nd in a gamecam contest

another 1...cropped a little
this aired on Cabelas Memories in the Field couple years ago..they sent about $150 in merchandide..one thing was a bushnell gamecam...heard they were not good so I sold it imediatly on ebay

For me, building a homebrew wasn't about saving money, it was just the next step in this hobby. You can definately buy a commercial cam that is cheaper than a homebrew but I guarantee you the pic quality won't be as good. To answer your question about the prices; the two biggest expenses are the camera itself and the control board. The boards run anywhere from $35.00 to $59.00. The cameras are the wildcard in the equation. You are using mostly discontinued models that are purchased from ebay, craigslist, or pawn shops. Most of the other items needed for the build are only $5-$10 bucks. All told, depending on the price of the camera, you can usually build a really nice homebrew for under $150.00.

I am just starting my first build. I ordered a Sony P32 off ebay for $35. As far as I know, the P32 is the low end for pic quality, but dont quote me on that. I ordered a kit, that will have everything that I need in it, for $139, including tax and shipping. So I will have about $175 into it. For me, it was the feeling of building my own, and most of the pictures that I have seen from the home brews, blow away the store bought cams.

Farmdude, I am currently building a P41. I purchased the P41 along with a P32 off of ebay for $130 which makes the P41 $65.00. I got 45.00 in the board and another 15.00 in the case. I might have another 10-12 bucks in everything else. So that puts me at about $135 for this cam.
