Trail camera question?
#1
I know this is an old question that people fight over a lot, but how often do you check your trail camera at different times of the year?I'm NOT asking how often you think people should check them I'm just asking how often YOU check yours. I checked mine every week and got pictures of a buck for a few weeks then he stopped coming to the camera so I'm holding out for two or three weeks at a time now. Deer season I'll check it every time I'm in the woods.

I put mine out in June of this year, and over the summer I had enough going on that it kept me away for 2-3 weeks at a time. But the closer it gets to the opener, I have been going just about every week, to week and a half.

I've had mine out since June. I go every week. If I'm getting pics on a camera, then it stays. And if they are good pics, I'll take the cams that aren't producing as well and move them closer to the cam that is getting pics. Need to try and find where they are coming from and where they are heading. I've tried leaving them out for 2-3 weeks with disappointing results. May get a buck here or there during that time but I want to find the core area of where they are moving and feeding. With that said, I also spray down and wear rubber boots. This time of year, I'm hunting for pictures.

I've been checking about every 7-9 days. Earlier in the year, I was going every 2 weeks but now I'm trying to narrow things down a bit. As long as you are carefull with things, I don't think it disturbs them too much. I've had deer show up 1/2 hour after I've left the area.

H.L.H: I usually check mine once a week, partly because some are for security and wildlife at the same time. This last time was ten days. I carry a multimeter, spare batteries and extra SD cards. I swap out the cards and if my batteries have a lower reading,1.25 volt or so I swap them out. I have 45 to 60 miles one way to travel depending on location. I would be disappointed to have battery or camera failure and missed out due to not checking a little sooner. I got into a faulty shipment of rechargeable batteries, and all one needs is one battery to fail out of 4 or 6 and your camera shuts down. All batteries tested 1.55 volt out of the package, but the faulty ones failed to charge back up to spec. Thanks for posting the question.

I check mine once a week as season gets closer. The deer almost always stay away the day I go in, but resume normal patterns the day after. I like to check often to make sure the camera is still working (checked before and only had 1 day of pics) and to put out more attractant (corn). It keeps them around for some nice pictures.
