Default advice please... keep the noflash or get a capture?

My father-in-law bought a Cuddeback NoFlash several years ago but it crapped out on him. He sent it in for repair/replacement/whatever, and used it for a year. It quit again, and I called Cuddeback for him. They said that it would cost about $160 bucks to fix the old NoFlash, or he could upgrade to a Capture IR for $125. His other option was upgrading to the Capture with the flash for $110. The customer service person told me that the new cameras don't have video or several of the other neat features the NoFlash had.

My question is this: Would he be better off fixing the old one or going with the new capture? The repair will have a 6 month warranty, whereas the Capture will have a 1 year warranty. But do the new ones compete with the old?

Thanks for any suggestions.

My dad ran into the same problem. I was never really pleased with the no flash to begin with and I have heard that the captures have pretty crappy battery life. I guess if you invested several hundered dollars in the no flash you should at least get something out of it. It just kinda irritated me that when my dad bought his no flash they were over $400 and now they want like another 175 to fix it or like you said 125 to upgrade.

My pa-in-law bought the NoFlash back in '06 I think, and it cost him upwards of $500. Since then, he's MAYBE gotten 2 full seasons of use out of it between falling apart/repair/etc. The pictures and movies were great, but man that's a lot of money to have fall apart! ps. The coolest picture he got was of a buck about 30 minutes before I shot him on the other side of the property. We pulled the card when we left to hang my deer up and found the pic of him that evening. Pretty cool.

For sure, mine are flawless and battery life is more than adequate.

I would get the capture. We own 12 of these with no problems in 2 years.

I'd get the new Capture with the flash.I had a Capture IR and it gave me nothing but trouble and poor IR night pictures. The regular Capture "Flash" camera has great trigger speed and seems to be a better camera.
