I have been wondering the same thing ( are they worth it ).
I see pictures on casingame.com where they do comparisons, but I would like to see and hear opinions of some end users.
I see the regular ones for $79.00 and the black out ones for $129.00

It depends on the cam you have. The IR model will go up to 80-90 feet of illumination and the black flash is about 50 ft. I like that one as I can convert my old IR cams into black flash. If you need more illumination, it works great. You would have to see the comparison list as there are a couple of cams where it wont make a big difference but over all it brightens the night!
