Not to impressed with my New I45
I finally pick up my Moultries I45 trail camera from cabeals on Friday. I placed the order back in early June, and has been on back order.
First impression: Camera itself feels nice and solid with some decent weight to it with the batteries installed. The strap that secures the camera is very cheap and I thought I was going to break the buckle on the strap when I tightened it to the tree. The camera is easy to programmed removal of the sd card is easy. So far everything is OK. Here's the part that really upsets me: The trigger speed. It will be a week or so before I get a chance to put the camera in the woods, so I decided I would try it in the back yard. I have two labs and two small children. I put the camera out Friday afternoon and I just checked the pictures. I had 148. Some of those pictures were of absolutely nothing just the back yard. When the dogs and kids would walk by it would either miss them all together or they would almost be out of the picture. There were a couple of times when I knew I walked past it and it didn't take my picture. I'm going to try it for a few more days. If I get the same results, its going back. I'll keep you informed. If anyone else has an I45, I would like to here your opinion.

My D40 also has a slow trigger speed. Need to set up in a spot where you know the deer are going to stop. I couldn't spend what I wanted to spend on a cam, but the pics I have so far the quility is very good. Oh yah, I did have some shots that was nothing but trees...

If Moultrie could get a better trigger speed they would probably have to have more money for them. Trigger speed is the biggest complaint by anyone that owns one. They are best at a pile or aiming straight down a trail, or scrape. If they had a fast trigger they would be hard to beat. You would think they could make it better?

ffmike,
Thanks for the review, I've been wondering about this camera ever since I first heard about it last spring. I don't know what the weather has been like in your area but there is one thing to remember. All cameras, no matter the brand, do not sense as well in hot weather. That could be part of the problem. You will also have more false triggers or pics with nothing in them during the hot months as well. You didn't say whether you got an IR model or white-flash but another problem with Moultries is that they like the light. In other words, if they are in a shady spot they tend to want to take IR pics when they should be taking daytime color pics. I have two I-40s and when everything works right, their picture quality is second to none but the trigger speed and the light issue are two areas where they have room for improvement. Thanks for the review and keep us all posted.

P.S. Did you get the module that allows you to send pics to your computer?

I live in Wisconsin. The weather the past couple of days has been in the 60's - 70's. So I don't know if that's effecting the camera, I wouldn't think so. Moultries new line of cameras are IR. The have whats called a "black flash" as it was described to me. One of the reps that I talked to from Moultrie said, "You can put the camera in a dark room and you wouldn't be able to tell its taking pictures" I might try that tonight. I'll keep you posted.

This pretty much explains it all. It looks like I'll be returning my camera tomorrow.

I think this will hurt Moultries reputation as a trailcam manufacture. First they promised black flash, then changed it to "virtually invisible flash" and low and behold it turns out to be a dud and only a glorified I40.
