Age this buck??
Anyone mind aging this buck for me? Either way he was a shooter in my book this past fall..Hoping to see what he grows into this year, justcurious how old he is. He still looks a little heavyin the
rear-end compared to his shoulders, but maybe he was justrun down from the rut and winter.
I'm guessing anywhere from a really nice 3.5 to 5.5 years old. I'm no expert on aging, curious what you all think..
Thanks

IMO he's 3.5 maybe 4.5 at most. Theres no dip in the middle of the back and his belly isnt sagging. He dont have the defined muscle tone of an older deer over 4.5. Tarsals are black and the hinds are big. Either way hes a good deer and he'll be a great 1 this fall. Nice to see he made it through. Good luck getting him this fall!

Well I'll go against the grain... Go figure
The picture, assumming the date is correct, is from Feb... So the neck wouldn't be that big (like during the rut), he's skinny because of the rut and now winter.
What I see is a large head, good mass, good width and the biggest factor, for me, is how long his body is!
As of Feb 2009 I would call him a 4.8 year old deer.
I tell you what... Let me come down there to help you "AGE" this buck in October[8D]
