RE: Deer stoppers(bait) in front of camera

I am currently using a combo of purina deer chow 20 and some high protein stock feed with mollasses. I mix the 2 50/50. I wanted to avoid using anything that would soak into the ground and stay in the soil for months like salt blocks do. I have seen people use the salt block method and the deer use it but not during daylight hours. My hopes are to get the deer used to coming in to feed during the daylight hours before the other critters get to it. So far its working as Ive had only 2 sets of night time pictures and over 40 daylight pictures. Im gonna have my deer trained like cattle. ;)

Dont ya just love the DNR! lol
DNR has nothing to do with these types of regulations in MO.
It's the Conservation Dept that sets the rules and regulations.

I've had luck with plain ole cattle salt and mineral licks but the deer in my area just don't take to those fancy rocks andliquids.
I've used deer cain and trophy rocks and got very little action.

They do love the salt lick area that we've had going for almost 12yrs now.
They have a hole dug about 3ft deep there. I'll have to take a pic next time i'm out there.

About corn, i used to use it all the time for picture taking purposes, but i have learned over time that it is bad for deer to get patterned on corn
What "pattern" are you referring?
Once the acorns start falling I can barely get them to come eat corn.

Over the years we have tried everything from Deer Cocaine to Trophy Rock and Buck Jam etc. to get the deer to step in front of our cams but the best thing we have found is just the cheap $6.00 mineral blocks that you can get from any local feed store. Other than corn that is, but the turkeys eat all the corn up within a day or two of putting it out. Here is a link to some of my cam pics from this year. PikeTrail Cam Pics.

The pattern i refer to is usually prevalent in the late winter months. The deer will only eat from the feeder, because it is readily available.
