I just bought one today. What can I expect from this camera?

My personal opinion of the IR pics i've seen so far are very grainy.
Day time pics seemed pretty good but those IR pics, I was not impressed.

range = trigger
This has nothing to do with quality of the IR picture being taken.

I like mine...

pics aren't the absolute greatest but it does the job... you can see the deer and its antlers why not having a flash boom out on your deer

RE: Cuddeback Capture IR!

Any of you guys have pics at night? I would like to see what I will be looking at.

bolton22 01-07-2009 08:37 PM

RE: Cuddeback Capture IR!

give me your email I got some...I think the pics are grainy because the pixel count in daytime is 3.1MP and at night with IR it is lower(1.3MP)...That is why it is such a cheap camera...Lower IR pixel count...It does a great job just not a quality photo in IR....If you want the better photo get something with a higher pixel count in IR.....

I have to agree and here are some examples of the IR I have. I am getting a Scout Guard for my next camera.

The see the IR, I have 7 pictures of this deer. This is her closes to the camera, she walked right up to it.

Hope this helps

I would get a Capture w/flash. Takes great day/night pics and flash doesn't seem to spook them. Scoutguard seems good but they are too new and look at the guys already having problems.

i havent had a problem with scoutgaurds yet. still on the same batteries since mid september. almost 4 months and still shows 2/3 life. cant get that kinda life out of acudde. all three of my cuddes have had to go back to the factory to get fixed.

not sure on the exact number of pics but alot. kindahard to keep track in 4months,but it has kept that battery life right through some pretty cold snaps so far. the coldest being about -20 wind chill. most of the temps have been in the high teens to mid 30s during the day. my cuddes would have only lasted about a month if i am lucky in those temps. i keep them inside now during the winter dont want to waste money on batterys.

just plain old rayovac.you would think that long on double aa's that it would be dead. but it keeps on a tickin. this week will take a toll on it though i bet most of the week the lows are in the single digits. find out next weekend.

Makes me wonder why they cant apply 5 MP to night time shots

Chaz I just got one and mine is a 3.0 and 1.3...Their web-site even says 3.0 and 1.3...Sure yours is a capture??

They can apply the 5.0 to night time shots but it's going to cost you and I the consumer more money...

I got one for Christmas and have posted a link to the pics that I got. These were taken on a new setup that I first put corn out when I put the cam out. I checked it after about a week and I should have more this weekend.

RE: Cuddeback Capture IR!

I personally dont like the IR at all. I called cuddeback and talked with a rep a few days ago and they said they are making changes to the IR so look for something new in the future. He said it works fine, but they made some improvements. My bro in law got the IR and even the daytime pics look grainy. It also puzzles me why some IR's have 5.0 on the box and others are 3.1. Its the same camera and even cuddeback said they didnt make a 5.0 capture.

I have 3 captures and love them.. night time pics are pretty impressive as well as daytime, but some daytimes are blury. I have pics of deer in mid jump(clear pics also). Not one flase picture in 5months. Someone mentioned battery life, but I still have 75% battery life on each camera and each camera has well over 200pics on it, but it doesnt get the -0 temps here in Va.

here are a few capture pics.. nothing impressive but we dont have gaint deer in Va as the midwest.

for the money, I cant complain... trigger speed kicks butt also. The bottom 2 pics are of the same buck 10 days apart within 15mins of the first pic. I was worried about flash spooking, but he doesnt seem spooked. The only downside is the range. After about 35ft you start getting out of flash range. On a fieldedge it might not work great, but in the woods it should do the job

RE: Cuddeback Capture IR!

talked to a lady at cudde customer service on Thursday...She said they are coming out with a firmware update in the next two weeks that will greatly enhance the IR picture quality!! So now just wait for the firmware to come out!

I've been dealing with Non Typical practically from day one and in my opinion the Capture is the best cam they have ever come out with. I'm running mine in temps down to -27 so far and this cam is unreal. It just hammers out the pics. I average about 250 - 300 pics a night. Battery ;ife is great. IR cams are ok but I love my flash cam. My deer could care less about the flash.

RE: Cuddeback Capture IR!

Feed Man, I thought about getting the IR untill I saw my friends pics.. hopefully the update helps though. I dont plan on placing the capture right under my stand anyway. I normally put them in the same area I hunt just to see whats roaming. So if a deer spooks from it, it wont effect my stand or the trail im hunting. However, I didnt see any sign of spooking. I got numerous pics of the same deer night after night.

Its better picture taking camera out there, but you have to spend 100-200bucks more to get those but still the speed and pictures im getting im more than happy with:D

RE: Cuddeback Capture IR!

If you look at the Advertisments in all the Hunting Magazines it states 3.0 day time and 3.0 IR night time photo's,when you get the box with the camera it states 5.0 megapixels day/1.3 megapixels IR and a 25 foot IR range.I have had trouble with my Capture IR from the day I got it.Very poor night/IR pictures the flash barely carries out to 7 feet with low quality pictures and when I set it up it may take the first few pictures then it goes dead after that with NO pictures, even the day time pictures look crappy with poor clarity.I have tried the rechargable Energizer batteries and the regular Duracell batteries that Cuddeback reccomends. It states on the Cuddeback Site to update your camera if it shows a code of anything lower than 15-15,mine showed 12-12 so I down-loaded the update on a SD card and loaded it in my camera it showed code SD-4 that it was updated and it still had the code of 12-12 and had the same poor quality IR pictures?I called BassProShop in Springfield MO. and they said the newer camera's have been fixed and work better...the BPS in St.Louis said they didn't have any problems with their camera's from their store....but their feedback showed differently.

Chaz3815 I noticed you posted a IR picture you took with the camera...I bet there was some exisiting inside artificial lighting on too!The camera seems to take better IR pictures with little help but when you try it in complete darkness it is very hard to see anything.

Is ther an honest -detailed up to dategame camera review kicking around?

RE: Cuddeback Capture IR!

www.chasingame.com

Lots of camera reviews...Basically if you want the best get a Reconyx or Buckeye but pay the money...If you want a $200 camera try the Scoutguard SG550 but expect some problems with it as well but their CS seems to clear things up pretty quickly...
