video is no big deal for me.cost, battery life, security and trigger speed are the MOST important things for me. after that things like date and time and a few other things that every camera has follow...quality is important but not THAT important....as long as i can see the rack and how big then its no problem...i have a bushnell trail sentry and the reasons i dont like it are battery life and trigger speed. that is why i am looking for another camera to purchase for christmas.

I'm a fan of homebrews and here's one in your range. Might have to register/log in to see the pics from the cam. All my cams (6) are homebrews with rechargeable batterys, and 2 were built by the member in this thread.

So why is no one talking about the scoutguards? From the research I've done online, they are a really good little camera that has just about all the options and a great price. I'm certainly no expert, but infared...video...great battery life, andgreat pics, and good reviews for ~$200 ...that sounds pretty darn good to me. Can anyone shed some light?

I've considered one, if for nothing else just the video. Then I read some of these problems from another website and that's whats holding me back. http://www.chasingame.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=8724 I'll wait and see how it all shakes out.

I don't think there are any other cameras in the price range that compete with the scoutguard for several reasons
-4000+ pics on 1 set of 8 AA batteries
-Consistently < 1.2 second trigger times (check the chasin game review)
-Size, home brews are the only ones that come close and I don't know of one you can build for $200

Homebrews built with Sony S600 cams,Sony P32 cams and Sony S40 cams can be built for $200.00 or less, sometimes much less.
