Please get back to the topic.What would cause a deer to still have antlers when I am seeing bucks starting to grow velvet? no velvet here yet. not even bumps. my guess is 99.9% of bucks have dropped their antlers. this is the .1%. If ever deer that people thoughT was an antlered doe really was one, they'd be EVERYWHERE! |

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NOVEMBER 15, 2006 Reminder to Illinois landowners and Wildlife Enthusiasts: Don’t Feed Wild Deer Ban on feeding wild deer in place since 2002 to help prevent spread of CWD SPRINGFIELD- The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) is reminding Illinois residents and visitors of the state’s ban on the feeding of wild deer and other wildlife in areas where wild deer are present. The ban was enacted in 2002 as part of the state’s continuing effort to limit the spread of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in the Illinois wild deer herd. The ban includes food, salt, mineral blocks and other food products, with some exceptions. For example, bird and squirrel feeders close to homes and incidental feeding of wildlife within active livestock operations are exempt from the ban. For a complete list of the exemptions see the administrative rule 17 Illinois Administrative Code Part 635 on the IDNR web site at http://dnr.state.il.us/legal/adopted/635.pdf But to get back on topic - every deer is different when it comes to how long they will hold their rack before shedding. Some shed in December, and a few will hold until mid-April. This isn't uncommon to see. |

The deer may still have his antlers...but if feeding is illegal then i think the big question here is why do you have a feeder?

that feeder is for the birds and squirrels.....that deer just keeps hitting it![&:]

Thats weird! cause the deer here in Oregon have almost finished growing theres.

I would say that he just hasnt lost them yet, most antlered does that ive seen dont grow an ordinary looking rack, like that one looks to be. Most ive seen looks weird.
