I have a steath cam and the last 2 time i went to ge my pics there was only 3 pics and they where from when i was putting up the camera. We have had alot of cold days in Ohio andi know deer have been by the camera. I think it's to cold for the camera. Has this happened to anyone else and what do you think?

I do not know much about your stelth cam, but I am thinking it is our batteries. The fact is that when batteries get cold, they lose alot of their power, I do not know the actuall technical term, but their reserve compacity will deplete some as it gets colder and will increase when they get warmer.

It's difficult to say exactly why your StealthCam didn't take any pictures. The cold may have affected the batteries or your camera. I have a StealthCam and it sometimes makes me scratch my head in warm weather as well.

I have another homebres style camera that sometimes gets some moisture in it and will freeze and not take pictures for a day or so and then start taking them again once the sun warms it up enough. I opened this camera up one time and it had ice in it and it was still working.

I checked my cameras yesterday after they had been out for six weeks in temps as low as -10 and the camera took a picture of me. It is a homebrew with rechargeable AA Energizer batteries and had taken 150 pictures before I showed up.

what kind of stealth cam is it? i have a cheapo stealth cam 35mm and i know it would freeze up if it got real cold, and the film wouldnt advance. if its really a problem you could try using lithium batteries. they a quite a bit more expensive, but work much better in cold weather.

I agree that it's probably the battery. I have a solar charger, and during our recent cold snap (highs in single digits for a week), didn't get any pictures. My camera (Moultrie 2.1) status was showing data/time, which usually indicates the battery has gone dead or been disconnected. I have a solar panel charger, but didn't think to look at the actual battery status. When I brought it back to the house to re-charge on the wall charger, it was fully charged. My guess is that the cold did not allow the battery to function, causing the camera to reset. Then when it warmed up, it charged the battery back up. Since it had been reset, it couldn't take any pictures because it was in setup mode.

I also believe my infrared sensor has problems in the rain. I've never gotten a single picture in the rain.

i got 3 stealth cams and it says they operate from 20 f to 120 f.ive had the same problem with the camera not working right in the bitter cold.it my opinion that its not the batteries.thats the only draw back to the cameras otherwise they work great.good luck

I called stealth cam and they told me not to use my camera when the temp. is under 14. So that means i can't use the camera for 3 months out of the year. I will not buy another stealth cam. Then they told me to send it back to the company and the will give me a new one. I hope this one can take the cold weather in Ohio or I'll send this one back too.
