you called it a "compromise" twist. What is a compromise twist when it was intended to be used with patched round balls? A 1:38 - 1:32 twist would be something to argue about but not with the 1:48 twist since it was used in small caliber, all the way up to the big bore hawken rifles ( original hawken rifles). About the only difference is, the originals had a choked muzzle.

No dissenting opinions!

Frankly, I'm glad they're not 1:66- the safe is already crowded.

Look up articles on hawken and 1:48 . Just about everybody uses the term compromise twist for the 1:48 . Its not my term for it , it is the term used by most , including a lot of writers involved in the sport . I guess i dont get your point at having a problem with me saying it is a compromise twist or did i just happen to catch you at the wrong time of the month

Yep, and they also had the deeper, cut rifling, not button rifling, that's why production rifles can be so picky about what loads they like...

Button rifling; snug patch = OK Accuracy / very tight patch = Fine Accuracy.

That's one....

Try a few dozen more...Then compare them with customs with .012-.015 deep cut rifling...

And they had the shallow, button rifling....Deeper, cut rifling works better for patched , round balls, it's more forgiving...
