Storing cloths in garbage bags
 

Don't use garbage bags for meat of hunting cloths storage, they are treated with chemicals that are designed to kill ordors but do leave a smell behind.
Maybe common knowledge but heres to good hunting.

Thanks for the tip--do you know of a cheap "scent free" bag? I have one, but it's about had it and don't know off hand where to get another--no decent hunting stores around here, and haven't seen any in the catalogs I use.

I store all my stuff in rubbermaid containers. You can add scent, or pine boughs, etc. Plus they are sturdy.

Wow gelarson, I didn't realize that! Maybe that explains why I've only killed 1 deer this year! Naaa...lots of other factors at play there. Too long a story. I store all my cotton stuff in plastic, but my woolens get stored in wifeys cedar chest <img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>. I don't think she's real crazy about it, but oh well...<img src=icon_smile_evil.gif border=0 align=middle> Hehehe!

I've always used garbage bags. I guess I should try to locate something better. I don't think we have anything at gander mountain save the ExpEnsivE (with Capital &quot;E&quot;'s) scent lok bags that are too small to fit anything into.

I still have my clothes in garbage bags. Anything we put them in either smells like us or it carries it's own scent or some other scent. I do put pine or sage in with the clothes depending on where I'll be hunting and wash them in a sport wash.

mine are either hanging in my hunting room closet or are in rubber maids also!

I use the rubber maid also, but I have thought about getting some of the GI sleeping bag bags. they are rubber on the inside and nylon canvas on the outside, totally water proof and scent proof. You get some from sportsmansguide.com or any army surplus that is close to a military base usually has a good supply. I already have a couple with my mummy bags in them, they cost about 3-4.00 a piece.

Hi again, you can get large freezer bags for turkeys that will hold a change or two and they are cheap at anystore. I'll bet that the local butcher shop will have something, This I will check out. I like you use plastic tubs. About four years ago a local sausage supply store gave me heck for using grocery bags (not food grade and made from recycled plastic) for my meat. I since use ice cream pails for storing cubed sausage meat.

Pat, Canvas on the outside? The one I was issued is more like rubber and kind of a rubber mesh weave impring on the outside. They are ok, usually dont last long if you put them to good use!

If you are looking for waterproof stuff to put cloths in just get dry bags, they can be had a sams every once in awhile for a great price!!! Either that or watch the campmor catalogs they have sales on them every no and then. I have enough for 2 people and still have some left over! They aint much more then what you would pay for the same size military 'dry' bags. Well atleast the one I was issued....
