Default Let the games begin

I just checked the DNR website, and found out that I was drawn for a bear tag here in Michigan. Time to pull out the bow and get to practicing. I got a new dozen arrows made up just for the occasion, and gotta get Chad to make me a few extra strings for the summer. I cant wait for Sept 15th to get here. Anyone got any extra cookies they want to part with?

I tried calling one in today with my rendition of a fawn in trouble. Dang blackflies almost drove me nuts. In my ears and up my nose and caught in my eyelashes when I blinked. So many of them in my ears i couldn't of heard a bear coming if he did.

September sounds real good to me. Good luck.

Tuff, it would be impossible to spot and stalk in this area. The area that the bears hang out in is very thick. You have to draw them to you.

Good luck Keith, gotta love those black flies. I have a black fly halo from all the bites I got around the brim of my hat.

Kip,

Thick? I take it you've never been to the coastal Pacific Northwest! LOL You know my post was in good fun; good luck which ever way you decide to hunt 'em.

I know your having fun with me Tuff. One of these years I want to make it up your way to try your style of hunting. Seems like it would be a riot.

Kip thanks. Actually while i have not shot a bear yet this spring I have been very successful and feel pretty good. The meat would be nice. I got to within 20 feet of one and couldn't shoot because of some brush. He knew I was there. I stepped sideways to clear the brush and started to draw, he vamoosed. And I let another one walk at 18 paces, he was not healthy looking but he could sure run when I threw a rock at him.

We can't bait here by law. Like tuff says it is unreal thick but we do have openings where the loggers have been and some of the fresher ones allow some visibility. And in the really thick spots where most of the bears are, we can use a call.

Hope your hunt goes well.
