March Postal Match

I have drawn up a target and would be glad to host the March postal match if somebody else hasn't already taken it on. Just let me know.

If you want to participate, send me an e-mail at [email protected] with your snail mail address. There will be one target. Take 5 shots at 15 yards, and as with February, the lowest score wins. You can make your shots all at one time, or do them Daily as with Pat's February 02 Match! I have a black Selway type slip-on recurve quiver or brown Selway removable recurve quiver for the winner (Your choice.). All targets must be returned to me by April 1st.

I've received about 8 0r 9 e-mails thus far. I will respond to you individually and let you know I received yours. I will be mailing out the targets starting this weekend.

It will not look like a traditional target. But, we are shooting traditional so that will make up for it!

Maybe it is that new recurve that messed up your count.
I shot the first target of the Feb match today. I gotta "2." Better watch out guys, Floxter made me shoot 30 yards and it has improved my 15 yarders.

RE: March Postal Match

When you get your targets, there will be a cover letter along with it that will explain all of the rules. The first rule I'll post here: "Don't criticize the authors sense of humor!"

I really try to stay serious on the board, so I don't often let my sense of humor come into play. But, as I was typing the cover letter today, a few one liners slipped out.

I enjoy these postal shoots. They were fun last year and this year has started in the same vein. Remember the purpose of these matches:

1. Focus
2. Fun
3. Focus
4. Fellowship
5. Focus
6. Fierce Competition
7. Focus

The real FOCUS should be on items 1 through 5 and 7. Number 6, it will take care of itself. Did I remember to say FOCUS?

Dang Bill, this isn't going to be a real hard one is it? I went to the range today and couldn't hit my butt with both hands.

Mike,

Ya set the ball on a tee just waiting for someone to hit a homerun. Like I said above, I'm trying to control my sense of humor on this board, so I'll give you a break and not type what I've been thinking and laughing about since I read your post.

I just finished licking 15 envelopes and I'm heading to the Post Office to mail them. If you don't receive one by Wednesday or Thursday and are expecting one, please send me another e-mail with your address and I'll get one in the mail to you.

I still have not ordered any arrows for my recurve so I guess I will have to before March first. Dont anyone laugh at me though since I really am just going to be learning to shoot without any wheels or sights.

Shotgun Red,

Ignore my e-mail response I sent to you. I check e-mail before I come to the board. I sometimes send responses that had I come here first I would already know the answer. Your target will go in the mail tomorrow.

By the way, if you hit the garage, just put an X on the target at the point closest to where the arrow flew by!

One Eye,

Your target will go in the mail tomorrow, too. As I said in my response back to you, its all about having fun! Learn while having fun, hunt while having fun, become experienced while having fun, and hunt some more while having fun!

What kind of recurve do you have?

Bill, I have a curve that is up in the air as to the maker. Its only 25#@28 so at my 29" its still really light but its worth using until I can get somthing a bit more heavy. There is a chance that my grandma may have my Papa's old bow still. Im going to ask her about it next time I see her.

Vic,

Have Karen watch you while you shoot. As long as you don't turn blue, you'll be alright!

Hmmmmm, I forgot to add that it is permissible to breathe between shots. In fact, it is downright advisable!

RE: March Postal Match

I'm going to be travelling out of country for a week. I leave tomorrow morning. I will have mailed out targets for everyone that has e-mailed and requested one.

I'm going to some place called California. I don't know a whole lot about the place. Anyone able to fill me in?

When I get back Friday, I will check my e-mail and send out targets for any new requests I get this week. The closing date for me to send out targets will be Wednesday, March 13th.

I want to make sure everyone will have the opportunity to mail their targets back to me by March 31st after they finish shooting their 5 shots. How does everyone feel about the posting of all scores rather than just the score of the winner?

I think it is great. How about a little poll to let me know your wishes?

Bill

WAHYA- I HAD TO FORCE MYSELF TO LEAVE THE BOW AT HOME SO I WOULD NOT BE TEMPTED TO HUNT. NEEDED TO SPEND TIME WITH MY MOM. WHEN MY DAUGHTER CAME OUT FROM COLO. WE PLANNED ON GOING TO THE AQURIUM FOR A REPEAT VISIT BUT IT WAS THE WEEK END AND IT WAS SO CROWDED WE ELECTED TO PASS. WE DID GO TO HEARST CASTLE AND IT WAS JUST NORTH OF THERE WE SAW THE SEALS.... I COULD HAVE SPENT THE WHOLE DAY JUST WATCHING AND FILMING THEM.I WILL TRY TO GIVE YOU A H9OLLER WHEN I HEAD THAT WAY AGAIN.

how do you guys now that the target a guy sent in was shot at 15 yards do you just have to use the honor system or what???....and tel me how this all works...thanks

Floxter 03-03-2002 07:37 PM

RE: March Postal Match

Strictly the honor system. If a person cheats, the only one they're cheating on is themself. Besides, the way we all shoot, no sane person would ever cheat and then turn in the kind of scores we do.

Jack

Every shooter receives the same package of rules. All are to shoot under the same rules.

As has already been pointed out, it is an honor system, and our conscience must be our guide. I don't believe it will be a problem with this forum. I would NOT say that about all message boards!

That really says something about the integrity of the people on this forum.

My understanding is that this type of contest was done by Fred Bear and his friends. Is that right? or am I thinking of something else?

This may sound like a dumb question, but is it ok to warm up a bit on another target before shooting the postal match target?I mean that sometimes my old muscles need a little pre -shooting-Guess what i am trying to say some times my shooting really sucks without a few warm up shots. Great shoot thanks Bill, do not know why I am going to waste the postage to send it back but I will, you took the time to send it so I will take the time to return it even though it is pitiful.

Bill, shot my target today. BOY! If that "paper" was a deer vital, the deer would be history! The center balck spot was never in any danger. Oh well, did bettter than Feb. target. Shot all five arrows at one time. I saw no sense in prolonging the agony. I'm with the rest of the guys. I'm a masochist at heart. Post em all and let the chips fall where they may.
