Default got some wood!

Scored a black lucust with a 6-7' straight trunk, not to mention whatelse it may hold above the first limb and into the limbs themselves (but theyre usuallu crooked). Going to go cut it saturday and cut what won't work for staves. Haven't checked out the whole tree, just saw the main trunk and said "i'll take it off your hands and haul the brush off, if you'll give it to me". Tree was just off of the road and up rooted by a tornado. Looks no worse for the wear. Doesnt appear to be split or broke up.

Second score was three persimmon trees up rooted but not broken off. Biggest about 8-10in at the trunk. Again, didn't look close to see just how perfect the trunks were but just to see if they were broken. Hope to get a couple staves and maybe some riser wood out of them.

Very cool--good luck! I've often wondered just how well percimmon would work for a selfbow. Backed or not?

Scratch the persimmon. One was full of poison ivy and I wasn't about to touch it with a chainsaw with poison ivy saw dust bits flying everywhere and I wasnt just going to take two of the trees and leave the one with poison. Plus by the time we got done with the locust at the other location the temperature was 99F and humidity was in the high 80s. Heat index here was over 105 here yesterday. No go.
