RE: Question for you all....

I might be short drawing. I only draw to my k9 tooth. Are you guys drawing past that. I see some drawing past thier cheek.
Mark,
I've been next to you........you're a big dude! LOL
28" does seem short for you. My guess is that you are "Going TO" the string with your head rather than keeping your head upright and getting your elbow back and around stretching out and through with your back.

I know when I started shooting 2yrs ago with my vintage recurves, 50# r's no less I had a 28" aluminum arrow that I wasn't even getting to the front of the riser. I was so short drawing and going to the string it must have looked comical.
As I kept building up the strength and learning proper form those arrows just kept coming further and further back until I finally found a draw length. LOL
I can take that same arrow I started with now and just pull it straight off the back of the shelf now.:D

I think your right. I am going to have to video tape it this weekend. Because I easily draw a compound 30".

That brings up an interesting point Bigcountry! Where is one suppose to anchor? I pretty much anchor at the corner of my mouth. My dad has always anchored about an inch or so farther back, it works well for him. We all have our different ways of shooting these Traditional bows thats for sure. Maybe there isn't a right way, what works for one doesn't always work for the other person.

RE: Question for you all....

I know that my draw length will change depending on what type of bow I am shooting. Also there is a difference if going from a tab to a glove. I pick up quite a bit with a tab.

Hey, Howard was 6'2" and shot 28". I read somewhere that he also shot much shorter draw lengths then that and some of his arrows were only 27" long.

Jim Reynold's who is the Bowyer and owner of Thunderstick Archery is also 6'2" and shoots a 28" draw.

I'm 6'2" and have a 29.5" draw with a recurve and tab. But I also have to have custom made work shirts with sleeves that are 38" long. I shoot around 28.5" with a HH longbow with a glove.

(I was so buck-toothed I could eat an apple from the back side).
That one really made me think for a second.:D

And this brings up another question. When you guys quot draw length, are you quoting AMO draw (True draw+1.75"), or from you nocking point to the back of your riser.

RE: Question for you all....

Dadgone Chad, are the first of your family to walk upright. I didn't think you were a real tall guy and you have 30.5" draw. I am 6'2" and only am 28".
LOL! Chad's a pretty good size fella. I wouldn't grab him during a fight. Of course, I could easily out run him. :D

A lot of things can affect your draw length. Open or closed stance, how much you bend the elbow on your bow arm, where you anchor on your face, leaning into the string, etc. Then some folks are just builtwith longer arms than others. If I close my stance more and extendmore, I can come pretty close to 30" but it feels really off balance for me.

Typically, Ijust measure from the back of he riser on my recurves. Though, the problem with doing that is not all risers are the samesize, particularly when comparing large risered recurves to longbows. True draw would probablybe a more accurate measurement from bow tobow.

I just checked mine Big C and I measured it from the back of the riser to my anchor point. It was 28.5 instead of 29 like I always thought it was. How do you go about measuring it the (True Draw way)?

For AMO draw, you just take your 28.5" + 1.75" to be 30.25" draw. Thats what most mfg. list on thier bows for a certain poundage.
