RE: Question for you all....

ORIGINAL: Chris W.

I draw just under 29". The last bow I chronographed pulled 49# at that draw length. It averaged 194 fps with a 445 gr. Beman ICS hunter arrow. Shooting 2 blade magnus heads, it zipped right through the deer I shot with it. Keep in mind, Kenetic energy is only part of the equation when it comes to arrow penetration. If your arrow flight is poor and/or your broadheads aren't sharp, penetration is going to suffer regardless of the KE you setup can generate.

Schultzy....Those 2216's should weigh in around 540 gr, give or take a few grains. You're generating around 53 ft/pounds of KE with that setup. Those snuffers make quite a hole; don't they?:D
Thanks for the info Chris! They are a very impressive head! I've been shooting them now for 10 years and love them.

I haven't shot anything with this yet, as I just got it but here are my numbers

27" draw
58# hybrid longbow
582 gr arrow chrono'd at 168 fps. which gives me 36.4 of KE.

If some of you don't mind sharing, with your traditional bows, what's your....
1. Draw length:
2. Draw weight:
3. Total arrow weight:
4. FPS (if you've ever shot through a chronograph).

I'm wondering what kind of KE I should expect to generate with the new longbow. I guess I just want to make sure I set myself up with enough energy to do the job this next season.
My draw length is 28-28.5" (AMO Draw) depending the bow. For instance on my high wristed recurve, its. about .5 more than my low wrist longbow. True draw length is more like 26.5

I currently have 5 trad bows. going to thin the herd. But one is 42#, more my wifes than mine. Three are 50#. And my new zipper is 58#, but I measure 60# on a bowscale!

I shoot 2016's with 125gr on on bow at 500gr. I shoot 2018's with 145gr on two of the bows for 560gr, and 2216's with 175gr tip for 600gr for my 58# bow. I like to have at least 10gr/#.

I know my martin savannah at 50#'s with 560gr arrow gets 170fps. With my Zipper with 600gr arrow, I get 185fps or more.

27" draw
50 lbs
525 grain arrow
No clue on speed, guessing 160 or so

Dadgone Chad, are the first of your family to walk upright. I didn't think you were a real tall guy and you have 30.5" draw. I am 6'2" and only am 28".

RE: Question for you all....

I draw 30.5"(To the front of the riser)on my Black Widow SA-V at a hair under 62# , arrows are 572grs and were doing 193-195fps through the chrono. That's 47ish ft lbs of KE with a cut on contact head which should be enough to take pretty much any animal in North America. :)
Just in case.;)

I'm only 5'10" and my draw length is 29". I have long arms I guess!

RE: Question for you all....

I wondered for years what I was doing wrong, because I'm not supposed to have as long a draw as I do. Heck, I used to draw 32" on a longbow, but that was anchoring in the corner of my mouth and standing straight up.

I anchor on a tooth right under my eye--bicuspid? It's not a canine, because I had those pulled when I was 13 so there would be room for braces to get the rest of my teeth in the right place (I was so buck-toothed I could eat an apple from the back side). I'll still draw near 32" with a high-wrist recurve.

For the record, I'm 6'2" or 6'3", depending on which leg I stand on.

One thing I'd like to note--chrony numbers can vary a LOT, depending on calibration, light conditions, arrow flight, etc. etc. etc. I've shot my bow through three different ones and got basically the same numbers (187 avg.), so I think it's fairly accurate. I don't care myself, but I have a lot of people ask me what kind of speed I get. 'Course the longer draw helps.

I'll also note that was not with anything "doctored". Shot with a glove, same string I hunt with (14 strand Dynaflight '97, full set of "cat whisker" silencers, 8" of .025 serving). I can get 200+ fps with some tinkering and a little lighter arrow, but.......like I said, I don't care. I'll shoot through anything I'll ever get to hunt on this continent.

Chad
