RE: Now this is a cool bow
Well, just went out and flung a few dozen arrows. Bad news is 2016's with 250 pt still shows stiff reaction. Trying to decide what POC or spuce to buy. I think I am going to have to buy 40-45#. But bareshaft, its definately hitting to the left hard. But with 5.5" sheilds I am hitting within 5" of bull out to 18 yards but do notice alot of fishtailing. Todays shooting was so fun, its freaky.
I am using a homemade bow sling, and that helps the shock a lot. Yep, bob, thats the one for sale on tradgang. Jerry Adams is awesome to do business with. He wanted 400 for it shipped, but I told him, all I could scrape up was 300 shipped after buying the zipper. He didn't seem to pleased but agreed. I have been waiting a long time for a bow like this, so I am pleased. |
RE: Now this is a cool bow
I find an arrow 5-10# underdraw weight in spine is generally the ticket with the selfbows I shoot. I've got a hickory selfbow that shoots 29.5", 45/50 cedars nicely. It pulls 51#@29".

RE: Now this is a cool bow
Very nice! You may not want to do this with yours, but for handshock.........
I can't handle much myself--or my bow arm elbow can't at least. My selfbow is braced at about 7 1/4" and I have a 10 strand Dynaflight '97 string (18 strands in the loops) on it--really calmed it down. I couldn't shoot it with a dacron string--it just flat hurt. As for arrows......that can vary a bunch. I'm pulling around 65#, and mine shoots full-length 45/50 (with 125 grain points) the best. I can get away with 75/80# spine if I do everything just right, but usually the arrows look like an olympic gymnast on the way to the target. I'm no great shot, especially with a selfbow, but so far with this bow: 2006 Jerry Pierce Memorial--2nd 2006 Howard Hill--1st 2007 ATAR--3rd 2007 Tennessee Classic--2nd 2007 Jerry Pierce Memorial--1st 2007 Howard Hill--1st Only killed a couple criters with it so far--still very much prefer my longbow, and I'm a better shot with my longbow--but it's a lot of fun. Seriously considering making one myself this summer. Chad |
