Default This "Trad" thing is addictive!

I can't seem to get enough of shooting the longbow. I don't know for sure, but it seems to be coming very natural to me. 55# seems to be perfect. I can shoot for what seems like forever... until I can't see to shoot any more. Maybe it's all the physical therapy torture I just went through. The rest of me may be old and soft, but that right shoulder is BUFF, let me tell ya.

LOL, it is an ADDICTION!!! I call it my form of crack. LOL[8D] Enjoy it. I find it sort of brings me closer to my ancestors who used bows and arrows to harvest game years past. Glad you are enjoying it. It really is a blast.

You had your chance to run away..........[:-]Too late now.

So its coming along huh? Good deal! What arrows did you finally settle on? Did you have to change anything on the bow or string?

I have to agree. I am as re-new to as can be. Once I started shooting my bow yesterday I kept it up even though I could see my groups deteriorating because i was getting tired. I had to force myself to stop so i wouldn't start to ingrain bad habits. The recurve (haven't deteched myself to the long bow yet) was just so smooth and to draw and relase. Much more natural feeling. I did not get home until after dark today. I felt ripped off because I could not shoot.

I didn't make any changes to the bow set up at all. The arrows I'm shooting now are 2117s @ 31". The inserts weight 46 grains and the FPs are 145 grains.

Yesterday at the range, I had the distinct "pleasure" of having three grizzled old trad vets (who weren't shooting, just hanging out)watching me shoot and offering suggestions and offering constructive criticism. They all said that the arrows were flying good. Let me tell you, I learned a lot in that two hours. It was only my second serious shooting session.

Towards the end,at 20 yards, Ihad shot 5 of my 6 arrows in a 4" group around a 1" piece of paper tacked to the target wall. I nocked the 6th arrow and one of the older gents said, "just do the same thing you've been doing". I drew, released, and watched the arrow sail downrange and centerpunch the paper. They started patting me on the back and said, "you're on your way". Felt pretty darned good. It's amazing what a little "goodcoaching" will do for you.

One of the things they said that really surprised me was "Son, it ain't a target bow so quit tryin' to aim. All ya should be lookin' at is that lil' bittyspot you want that arrow to hit".
