stuck between bob lee and chek mate falcon

I'm stuck between a bob lee and a chek mate falcon. Could you show me some more pictures of your falcons. I like the purple heart riser with the maple limbs but I can't decide.

I have shot the bob lee, but man, they were outrageously expensive. The falcon definately affordable. I would definately go with it. I plan too in the future. But like you, I am having a hard time making up my mind on the different bows. And they really don't show too much of the whole bow on the website.

I have shot both but own a Chek-Mate King's Pawn. I can shoot the Pawn pretty well, but I do use a rest on it, and it was a bit picky to get tuned and quiet but it all worked out fine. But to me who cares about a little frustration as long as it can be fixed. And I'm sure Chad is more then willing to help out if you need it. I'm not saying all Chek-Mates need to be shot with a rest or are a little tough to tame, that just happened to be the case for me.

To me the Chek-Mates are one of the best bows out there for the money. For $300 I got an aweful lot of bow.:)

When i got my Falcon i sent Chad some pics via e-mail of it....i dont have them on my computer anymorebut....if you ask him(if he still has the pics) he can send them to you.

or maybee he can Post a few of it on this thread...if he has time....so i can save them to my puter also.

mine was Cocobolo and maple falcon deluxe with maple under clear glass for the limbs....

its a good shooter...you cant go wrong with it.....took me a while to tune butthats any bow your unfamilliar with.

...my only gripe about that bow design is the way that the grip doesnt allow you to put your hand even with the shelf(the hump with the overlays) its a minor bother, and i usually forget about it untill i pick up a bow that doesnt have that there...and then i wish mine didnt have it there.

Dremel. ;)I have to admit I modified the grip on my Kings Pawn slightly, made it a little thinner.

ccarp, I appreciate the quandry. I like both. If money was the problem - and it usually is for me - I'd take the ChekMate and not worry about it. With Bob Lee, you're paying a premium for the name, historyand reputation. He's one- if not the only one- of the last of the great 60's bowyers still producing bows himself.

Good looking bow, I did notice a lot of string silencers and limb savers are they loud bows?

Hey Alpha Capo I see on your fine looking bow that you have the limb savers closer to the riser. Is that where they should be on a recurve? I have my limb savers on my Great Plains takedown recurve closer to the top tips of the limbs.

you know i wonder the same thing????

...i just didnt want to put them on a part of the limb that works real hard...so i put them a couple inches up from the end of the fadeout....i thought about peeling them up and resticking them higher up to see what the difference is, if any....stickem where you want them.... my guess is that they work best as close to the tips that you can get them...i just didnt want to stick them there.

also,

those pictures dont do the maple in the riser and limbs justice(sometimes i think i shouldhave gotten the whole thing done in maple)....the limbs have some nice flame figure to them when the light hits right...every piece of woods alittle different and i always see bows with maple limbs but they always have black glass over them.....

the reason is because some guys think that the maple is ugly....

i think it looks really nice with clear glass...

honestly ive never seen a peice of maple that i didnt like, wether its super white and plane jane strait grain with no Eyes or flame......or highly figured and loaded with eyes.

the Cocobolo is real nice..... great red color and heavy black grain. Chek-Mate does a great job for the price....there is no flaws on my bow anywhere.

my favorite thing about the way the bow is made is the Satin finish, it doesnt look overdone like alot on the high gloss finishes, and it feels great in the hand.....its a very understated, very nice look.

and it shoots just as good as any...

it was kind of noisy for a while(someone else might not have thought it was, im picky)but i have that settled now that shes in her sweet spot.

one more thing is that the grip size is perfect to me...my hands are medium size but i have long fingers(not freakish) some guys have shorter fingers....other than that overlay wrapping around the back of the shelf its perfect(in pic 3 you can see what im saying.).

Good looking bow, thanks for the picks, I think that the Falcon is what I am going with.

Have owned a lot of bows over the last 50years or so, including several "customs", but never had a Bob Lee, so I can't comment on them. I did/do have a bad shoulder problem and had to sell everything and buy new a few years ago when I had to drop 15-20# in draw weight. Bought a CheckMate Thunderbird first and wanted to add a recurve so I bought a Falcon. It is one of the best (if not the best) recurves I have ever owned & shot! Not fancy, not expensive, but a great bow for a very reasonable price!!!!!!!!!!! I got a shedua riser & walnut limb laminations and it looks good, too!
