Default history vs the present

As a couple of you are aware from previous postings I am collection old periodicals/photographs. A partner of mine is big into bh collecting and owns one of the bigger broadhead-arrow-patch-picture collections out there along with a few bows that would make you gasp! Well I found my niche......

It came in the from of the old timers stuff. Oldtimers being anything not written/published anymore or not in existence.

Well today I hit major pay dirt if you will. Acutally I had been pondering the final outcome of this transaction for awhile now. Needless to say the box arrived today (along with a few other books). I wasnt to jazzed at first as it had slipped my mind what was in this box and that I should recieve it so fast. Well inside was a couple books....Klopstegs Archery the Tech Side 1947, Stalkers How to make modern archery tackle 54', and the 2nd edition of The complete book of the bow and arrow by Gillelan.

I flipped through Klopstegs book and was amazed at what I was seeing.

Well in the bottom of that box was almost a complete set of THE BEST stickbow magazine I have laid eyes on yet!!! The Longbow Shooters Digest, complete with the Premier Edtion, a small "booklet" if you will. Just WOW! The quality of writing in this set nocks the sox off of anything in the magazine world thus far! If you see one snag it! If you have extra's let me know I am missing 2.

There are a few other books I HIGHLY recommend finding if you can. I picked up the John Schulz's new book, complete with signature. Its not one that was supposed to be there! I read the chapter on equipment and was humbled to say the least at what I was reading! I can tell ya, nothing but slight changes in materials and designs has changed.

There is a handful off other goodies out there.....if you can find any of the old bowhunter digests...CR Learn and Bear have some, and the old Instinctive Archer Mags...if you do let me know I am in need of a couple here also..I do have a couple traders though but wont let them go till the complete set is had for anything other then the missing IA mags.

There seems to be a lot of "new" stickbow folks around. I highly recommend picking up some of these older books. Many of the new books are nothing but reprints of the older books. Just something to think about the next time you ask, HOW, or WHAT SHOULD I DO! Amazon, Borders, any of the classifieds, and do some calling and you can have your own little gems!

for now its moe readin time.......

Thanks for the insight I will have to do some more reading it seems. And I must say isn't it great to have such a vast pool of resource as the readers and members of this forum?

Sounds like you had a heck of a great find. I tried to pick up a copy of Klopsteg's book on eBay last year, but it went for a LOT more than I was willing to spend.

Amazing how "technical" this stuff really is, huh?

Jrw,

There are two of the first edtions of Klopstegs book. ONe is a limited edtion. I have seen them go anywhere from 130 on up. The other is just a regular edition. I picked up this one for 85 and could turn around and sell it for more as its in MINT shape.

Do a quick search on the title, there are some pretty dang good sellers out there...ebay not being one of them. I have picked up a good bit off of there and usually end up paying the high end.

Here's one for ya....Dawn nabbed a book called Arab Archery for xmas. Do a search on it....you thought Klopstegs book was spendy, compared to it, its just pocket change! That or watch some of first/second editions of Popes books....200 minimum. Signed editions going for 1700 ore more! I remember someone telling me this hobby was cheap.....dunno what kinda wacky weed they had but sure wish they would have shared some !
