Total newbie at trad....

Just ordered my Frd Bear Montana longbow, today.

Wish me luck. I guess I'll look into some arrows and a glove this coming weekend. Looking forward to loosing some arrows in the yard.

Thanks for all the help and I'm sure.....future encouragement. I'll need it.

I'd recommend calling back and adding a copy of Become the Arrow by Byron Ferguson to your order, if they've got it.

I'm not too worried about having to encourage you. You're going to have fun.:)

That book really cleared things up for me. And it is a ton of fun!

Congrats! You have to give it an honest chance to really take hold.. It will be frustrating at first, but you will improve 10 fold in the first month if you work on form, up close.... I'm going into my 3rd season and I shoot weekly year-round and I'm just now feeling really confident at taking a 20 yd shot in the woods... Sure, target shooting is not much to hit the kill at 20yds, but things change drastically when the adrenalin starts flowing and that deer looks as small as ant!

Good luck! For gloves, I really like the Skookum.. I believe 3 Rivers sells them for about $25...... It's not too thin and no too thick, just enough to protect the fingers......

Please share all of your experiences, I am 99% sure I am going to give it a whirl next year with a longbow. If nothing else it will be a fun toy for targets!

There is some attraction that draws me to them in a catalogue or at a shop....

Enjoy. Get someone to help you tune your arrows to your bow.

I recommend that you buy Instinctive Archery Insights by Jay Kidwell. This is a great book that WILL teach you how to shoot in record time. I believe Amazon has it. You don't need to just fling arrows. Great book.
