hi fellas,

welcome to the site LBR would be the person that could tell you the most about checkmate bows on this site as he is a dealer.They are made by one bowyer and are very high quality.I am not the type of person that is &quot;brand loyal&quot; but all 4 of my current bows are checkmates and I have another on order.The quality of these bows for the price is unbeatable IMO as they don't do the commercial advertising wich helps keep the overhead down.There bussines comes from word of mouth.I am sure you will get more responses on this post.

Troy is right LBR (Chad) can fill you in on all the details. Great bows at a great price. I don't have enough Traditional experience to be brand loyal but own 3 Crusaders. Bought my bows from Chad and listened to his suggestions, they were an awesome bow for me. Chad and Chek Mate will not let you down. Good luck and welcome to the site.

Like was previously stated, talk to LBR about the history of the company. I do know that Marc is their bowyer. I do know that you can buy one over the counter from the few dealers that carry them. I do know that you can custom order one of them through a dealer, which I did when I bought my CM Hunter II takedown. I do know that there is no compromise in quality either way and Marc builds a beautifully crafted weapon.

As far as a comparison between production bows like Martin or Bear and Chek-Mate, in my biased opinion after shooting 50 or so different bows and owning both Martin and Bear bows in the past 12 years that I've been shooting traditional equipment, there is no comparison. Price, quality, shootability and craftsmanship all go to Chek-Mate. Even when compared to many custom bows costing a couple or more times what I paid for my hunter II, the Chek-Mate shines. But then, I'm biased, like I said before.<img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

Welcome to the site. After reading all the good write-ups and assorted comments about Chek-mate bows I too ordered a new Crusader and anxiously await it's arrival. LBR (Chad) was great at helping me select the right bow to fit my needs and abilities. I'm sure you'll find as I did that this board is full of great advice on pretty much everything.

I'm on my second Chek-Mate, both of which I purchased via Chad/LBR. The first was a Firebird T/D recurve. I killed my first trad deer with it. I have since given it to my son and purchased a Crusader.

I had a temporary infatuation with a Fox Reverse Handle longbow between the two Chek-Mates. However, 3 or 4 3-D shoots pointed out a severe shortcoming of the bow for me. It had a greatly reduced drawlength due to the design.

I sold it and ordered the Crusader and haven't looked back. I haven't killed anything with it yet. But then again I haven't seen anything in the woods while I have had it in my hands either!!

The quality of the craftsmanship is unbelieveable. A great bow at an even greater price!!

Hi there RG. I see you found the place. If you want, use the search function and you will find out all kinds of info on chekmates. Also, try www.recurves.com. You can find some good info there. If you ever plan on getting around Richmond, e mail me and we will set it up so you can shoot my crusader. Rain or shine, it don't matter as I can shoot about 19 yards in my basement. I think you will like the chekmates once you have shot one.

Everyone else is right, Chad is the man. Him and I have exchanged about 100 e-mails over the last week! He is a great help. Just ordered my first recurve from him (Chek-Mate Firebird), and he made everything very easy. Good luck, although I don't think luck will be necessary!

Pick a hair.....or a caruncle!!

I just received one for Christmas, a Raven 55#. All I can say is...no advertising, you will have a hard time (impossible?)finding one used, and if you do a bit of research, will also have a difficult (impossible) time finding any negatives. Mine is a smooth, hard hitting little recurve. I am extremley pleased with my Raven and am already looking at one of the Crusaders. I own two other Martin recurves which are very nice, but I prefer the Raven over them hands down.
