This is what mine is doing. It has about 1000 shots through it. What would cause this to happen? There are no sharp edges on the limb tip.

Mine was doing that on my longbow. The longbow has laminations, and I had to send it back to be smoothed down. Now, about every 50 shots, I wax the loop ends too. Also had Chad make me up some fastflight strings and not had a problem since. I hate shooting dacron.

I think its dacron but I'm not sure. I'll ask Chad.I do wax but I don't take the string off and do the loops. Lesson learned. I knew not to use that string again. I had another new one for a back up.
EDIT: I don't think my bow can handle fast flight.

What kinda bow is it? Actually, I got Chad to make a 450plus string.

Yep, waxing the ends really helped on wear. Also make sure you note weather its top or bottom limb causing the wear.

yea youd might as well not wax your string if your not gonna do the loops(the whole loop wich means taking the string off the bow) theris nothing wrong with dacron its just not as hard...so you have to take more care of it.

The bow is a Darton Hunter recurve. 56" and 49# at 28"

if the tips are reinforced with overlays(small peices of laminated wood or micarta-phenolic over the glass) its ok for Fast flight....but i dont think it is...that bows pretty old, use Dacron or something simular ....talk to Chad.

It does have wood overlays but I'm not willing to take a chance with it. It is shooting well so I will leave it alone. All I need to do is provide better maintenance.

On the little tags sticking out below the loops, the others covered it well. I trim them off flush, but there's always some that work their way out--it won't hurt a thing, but if it bugs you they can be trimmed off--nail clippers work with dacron, but it takes an exacto knife for the others (be careful!).

TX, you obviously can't feel it but there's a rough spot in that string groove somewhere. Dacron isn't nearly as tough as the other materials, but it shouldn't cut like that. It doesn't take much of a spot to cause that, especially with a lot of shoting. Rubbing a cotton ball in the groove may show you where it's at (it will catch a little bit of the cotton). The groove needs to be polished smooth and that will take care of the problem.

OK, thanks for the tip Chad. I'll try the cotton ball thing tonight when I get home before I tear up another string. What can I use to smooth it out?

A very fine sandpaper or emery cloth, depending on how much smoothing it needs. Worst case scenario, it may require a bowyer.
