Who has come down out of the trees?

I used to hunt out of trees a lot. Not exclusively, but a lot. I fell a couple times while putting up stands (years ago before most of us were using safety devices).....no serious injuries, but there sure could have been.

Anyway, I pretty much hunt from the ground any more and really enjoy it. I think my success is as good if not better than when I was up in the trees.

Anyone else come down?

My last 5 deer (and my hog) were all of the ground...
Im about ready to sell the stands to fund a new longbow!

I split it about 50/50 generally. I definitely enjoy hunting off the ground more... I think. I sometimes setup my climber just off the ground and brush myself in.

I still like both, depending on the situation.

Didn't need to come down out of the trees because I have never hunted from a tree, ever. I like being on the ground, where I can move in on the critters if they decide they don't want to walk past me.

That's what I've found too. I watch tv shows, videos, etc. of guys in trees who sit there and watch helplessly as critters pass by out of bow range. Sometimes they can call them in, but most times not. I killed one of the nicest bucks I've taken by getting out of my tree when I saw it at a distance and realized it was never going to come close enough for a shot.... I just circled ahead of the buck and waiting along the trail he was using and was able to get a 12 yard shot on him. If I'd stayed in the tree, I'd never have taken that buck. It's been my experience that if you see a mature buck, do whatever you can to take him......more often than not, you'll only see him one time (or at least that's the way it works most of the time where I hunt). I can count on one hand the truly mature bucks I've seen more than one time....

Im opportunistic. Ill hunt the best place for the given situation. Last year I shot a few deer and hogs from the trees, and a deer and several hogs from the ground.

In Ky hills, on the ground, in MD heavy thickets, trees. My success rate doubled when started tree hunting. I just got winded so much on the ground.

I guess I hunt what ever the situation calls for also. Last year I shot my bick from thr ground and my doe from a tree. I killed all of my game while living in Montana from the ground. I let the situation call the shot. However, I did quite "tree" hunting while scouting and pick the best spot regardless of elevation.
