Plenty of pines down here..... However, most guys I know rarely use a climber on a pine..... Way too noisy... We aslo have lots of oaks, hackberry, pecan, persimmon, willow, cottonwood, etc....

Yep--what DC said. I prefer to find a nice tall hardwood tree to climb myself. I have hunted from pines--noisy, and that dang sap gets all over everything if you aren't careful.

i think all of the opinions are mostly just the area you were raised in.all the north/northwesterners are thinking"awww, you just have to know how to stay out of the sap," and "you just climb trees all wrong.it isnt loud if you climb it right."vice versa for the southerners.

Well all be darned.
Up north almost everyone hunts from pines, and the guys who dont, look like a turd in a punch bowl once the leaves fall. I like Hemlock trees the best, they dont have all thet much sap and great cover from below. Most of the pines up here, excluding the jack pine, are not climbing stand freindly.

Go east of Dallas, to around Tyler, and all the waydown to around Huntsville, that's the Piney Woods part of Texas. You're hard pressed to see anything but pines.
I live in what they call the Post Oak Savannah, butI grew up in the Mesquite Scrub Hellhole area.
