Killed a widow tonite

Ya you herd that right. A black widow recurve DIED hehe. Actually we were coming in from a snowmobile ride and a ptarmigan chasing session. Park on the high ridges, walk out and spook them to the next country kind of thing being they have been so pressured by shotgunners getting close was all but impossible, we were coming back to get Loel a buddy of mine from the Anchorage area, back home. On the way back in all 20 miles worth each way in beautiful scenic middle of no where grouse watching ALaska, we hit a stupid rail road tie buried in waste deep snow. Needless to say my snowmobile tipped enough sideways to throw both of us off. Loel was holding onto both bows, my crusader and his deceased widow for the ride. Upon hitting the log he tried to throw them clear of us to no avail. He wasnt sure how it happened but his upper limb splinter. He said he had cleared us, the sled, and didnt manage to put any kind of ding in the limbs. This is the 2nd bow he has had limbs split on and widow will do nothing about it! The first was hanging on a wall in the house being shot on a regular basis, but thats not a story I know all the facts. Its just wild they claim these bows can be doubled over backwards but when they get twisted to the side (as we figured happend) and the bow managed to unstring itself, there was enough energy in the bow to split the limbs down the middle and up almost to the nock! My new nickname......The Widowkiller!

and another one bites the dust, YA! hehe.

naw, got a perfect longbow for him, he needed an excuse to put that widow down anyways. A Robertson Mystical, fits him well to boot and he shoots it great!

Besides, being a Lee owner, they aint much different LOL!

ya know- my Partners(Palmer) is 64" which is pretty long for a huntin recurve.
I've always liked a longer bow- even all my compounds.

Dan,

I'm a firm believer that the only good black widow is a dead one!!

naw, they are a half decent bow, just highly over priced! I just find it humorous that both his sets of limbs now have broken almost exactly the same.

Dan, what were the specs on the bow? Was is a heavy weight and have long limbs?

I've seen the video where the limb gets bent over backwards. I also have a bowyer friend who put a "junk" limb in a vise and he couldn't break it, and figures you could do that with most any bow on the market. To me, that part is hype, but that is my opinion. Looks very impressive, but doesn't mean anything.

Lastly, why did he buy a second one after the first one blew??????

Oh well--at least you got a home for that Robertson now--lol.

Long Bows Rule!

RE: Killed a widow tonite

Chad,

The bow length was 58"es, the weigth 55lbs. He nabbed a smoking deal on the 2 bows at the same time. The first was hung in a cabin in the middle of no where. The bow was strung and one of the guys there managed to nock it down. The bow split about mid limb to the tips right down the glue joints in what looks like the uni directional piece of glass, or whatever the lam is in the middle.

The last bow also split mid limb but wasnt able to make it to the ends. Splitting right down the middle inbetween the lams, with a fracture to the tips.

I will tell you no, neither where heavy weights. As far as long limbs goes, I dunno what the actual limb itself measured at but both bows were 58"ers.

I have many homes for that Robertson, just no one willing to put put out the doh ! If she was a 66"er she'd never leave my hands!

Btw, I havent fixed the crack in my riser either. I was asking Loel just how in the heck I am going to pull it off as the crack doesnt go all the way through, just one side. Thinking I had better send it to Marc, he's da man!

Sounds to me like both bows were mishandled. Why should Black Widow fix them if they were mishandled and not under warranty? It would be like buying a used vehicle with 60,000 miles, wreck it, and expect the original 3yr/36,000 to repair it. It`s just not gonna happen. I am sure Black Widow would be glad to make him a set of limbs but it`s going to cost him.

Hmmmm, Black Widow broke, Crusader survived. Why not have him get a Crusader, or if he prefers recurves a Hunter or Hunter II?
