It's a lefty in the 43# range. I was looking at it as a "carrot" for a friend of mine to entice him over from the wheel side but with the exchange rate and shipping it's getting to spendy for me.

If you can't find a used one you could probably buy a new Bear recurve of your choice from Cabelas or where ever you can get one from. They seem to have a pretty good resale rate if you didn't like it, or just wanted to get rid of it after upgrading.

Bowman- I have some friends with an archery shop here in Houston- PDQ Archery. David & Peggy Quinn manufacture a good quality, not fancy, inexpensive takedown recurve. Their basic model is $260 new, and available in left handed.

Bowman- The Darton Trailmaster that TuffCity found on Ebay looks like it's going to go for under $100. The seller doesn't realize that the bow is lefthanded(got it wrong). They also have a string on it that must be at least 2" too short. The brace height is over 12" and should only be 7.1/4" on a 52" bow. It would be a great, cheap way in to a lefthanded recurve but my only concern is that short recurves "stack"- get tough to hold at full draw and pinch your fingers. A 52" bow is really for a short person with a draw length of around 26".
I download the pix and put them together- looks like a decent bow for a teenager.

Buying a used bow is like buying a new truck. Ya like what your buddy has but might not like how it drives. You want to TRY and find something you'll like for a few years to come till you get situated and know 150% what route you want to go in the trad world. Recurves at women Outdoors Classifieds

Man, there were 347 ads for recurves at the Women Outdoors site LilHunter mentioned. The link above goes directly to them. Surely there would be something there for you. If not there is a list of other classifieds site links, too.

Good luck. I've found that traditional shooters get really attached to their bows. I've got a takedown custom recurve that I don't shoot anymore SINCE I GOT MY CRUDSADER LONGBOW <img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle> but it's not for sale.

Go to the second page of bows listed on Powduck's link to women outdoors. It has a 66&quot;, LH Bear Grizzly @45# for $125 plus shipping. Contact the fellow and find out what the shipping costs would be to you and you might just be in business!

Be sure and ask if he can send pictures so you can see what the bow looks like before you buy it. Ask if it has twisted limbs, etc.

Bowman- the concern with old Bear bows is glue failure on the lamination layups. My Kodiak tournament bow from the 50's had seperations in four places and can't be strung anymore. I don't know what year Bear finally solved the bad glue problem. My separations didn't show up till the early 70s- so the bow was close to 20yrs. old before the problem showed up. I know of other old Bear bows with this problem. Ask if you can inspect the bow before you finalize the deal.
