I just bought a box of the Hornady 139gr SST bullets in 7mm08 and they shot great. I want to use them for whitetail deer and was wondering what any ones opinion was on these for deer? Thanks

They perform quite similar to nosler ballistic tips while being 1/2 a tad tougher.

I have used them for three seasons, and they have worked great for me...

Glad they shot well for you. I just could not get them to shoot out of my Browning as well as the Interlocks. What load are you using?

I have been using Benchmark to reload the 139gr SST for my Encore pistol, but haven't been getting the grouping results I would like at 100 yards. I worked up to the max load of the Hogdon website for pistols and had to stop shooting because the scope was sliding. I just added two more rings and plan to try again to see if the scope will stay in place.

Vargetand IMR 4895 seem to be popular choices on other forums, I may need to give those a try.

They do great in my Sako 75 .30-06... (150 gr. SST's that is). My best group so far was right at 0.75 inches at 100 yards.

I load 41.2gr of IMR 4064,I reload for my son's 7mm-08 with this load and it is accurate...

A buddy of mine shot them at a deer and it blew up on the front shoulder (no penetration at all), then he had to put another in its neck and it blew up on impact too. No penetration at all, he switched to Inter-Bonds.

I have been shooting the SST light magnum in my 7mm-08 since they came out and I doubt you can find a better load for white tail.
