Distance Differences (Ground vs. Treestand)
My buddy and I were shooting today.. and we got to talking about distance differences from shooting in the backyard on the ground and then shooting from a treestand at the same distance.. How much of a yard difference would it make?? say your in the tree maybe 20 ft and have about a 20 yard shot compared to shooting at 20 yards on the ground... Any opinions?

the math shows its like shooting 21.2 yards but thats just the math. i also dont know if im doing the same math a range finder does. the pythagrion (dont spell check me) theorm give that answer.

Pythagorean theorem, a2 + b2 = c2 .
The tree being A, the ground distance being B, and the laser ranged distance from the stand being the hypotenuse C.
When in doubt, laser range find your target and subract a yard, bend at the waist, pick a hair and split it.

Well 20 yards is 20 yards... I never had a problem aiming directly where I want my arrow to go when Im in a treestand. I would like to hear everyones opinion.

The actual distance (base of tree to target) is slightly than the ranged distance but not by much (thanks Rob 1yd should do it). The arrow is also slightly less affected by gravity. If you shoot the ranged distance you will shoot slightly high, but not much.

i guess the farther the shot and the higher you go will effect it more... sounds like it will make you shoot lower if anything...

You range 20 yards, the actual distance is 18.73 yards...
You range 40 yards, the actual distance is 39.38 yards....
The height and distances would have to be very extreme before you ever see 2 yards or more difference. As I said above, when in doubt, subtract a yard, no one can shoot the difference, bend at the waist, pick a hair and split it.
The other thing to consider, most if not all range finders are give or take a yard...

I really like the way you put things sometimes.
But keep in mind, the farther away the target at the same height the less it will be in distance difference.
