Default Billy Davis Memorial - results

Wow! What a weekend!!! The weather was perfect and the fish talley proved it. (I'll let others post the results)

We never have enough time to talk with everyone. To all those I missed, My apologies. I believe that we would need another 12 hours for the "catch-up/BS" session.

There is no way we can say thank you enough to the Davis and Trotter families. Thank you for your support and all the great food.

Speaking of support, thanks to the BAA for the donation to the Billy Davis memorial.

It was good to see so many new members sign up. The registration went very smooth thanks to Christine and Dave and everyone who helped. (yeah that's just about everyone)

Afterwards the "CIRFCU" and Drew along with"carpenders"and tac light specialist and super hero, Chris went to check out the spillway and tailwaters for bigheads. We didn't harm any bigheads, but did get a good look at the next state record common carp.

Team CIRFCU arrived home late Sunday very tired. We hope all of the participants made it home OK as well.

I had a blast!
What a georgeous lake Rend is! Wow.
I left my mark on it by involuntarily donating an arrow to a root ball.

Team Carpenders and I took great joy in properly breaking in Mark's new boat. He was literally just finishing it up when I pulled into his driveway the day of the shoot. In spite of being almost completely untested in every way, it performed very well, and did everything that was asked of it, except make coffee at 2am.

It was a long drive down and back, but well worth the trip. It's so nice to have resources like this around the state, and to have fellow clubmembers who know the waters well, and can put you on fishwithin seconds of getting your troller wet. (Thanks Slim)

Thanks also to Joanne, who watched over things while everyone was out on the water.

Great event everybody.

I had a great time, everybody gets a big thanks for all the help and work you did. Thanks to Billy's family for all the food and treats. Thanks to Dr Rob for taking the new memberships and helping with registration. A big hug to Joanne for guarding the parking lot for us, and for giving me sympathy for my owwees. Another big thanks to Mike Hooe (the fisheries biologist) who not only was our official fish counter but also brought doughnuts. Thanks to everybody who signed up as new and renewing members. Thanks to Slim and the Indy Boys for taking care of the fish.

A total of 1,261 fish weretaken at the tournament.

Here are some pictures...

The cookout gets going.

The Carp-Ender's took this boat out for it's maiden voyage and it performed flawlessly.

The INDY BOYS took out their newly unveiled 'Catastrophe'. Beautiful boat guys!

Alex with the truck and it's cool stickers.

Team Carp Lungs from Decatur.

Team Shot n the Dark.

Dr Rob grins... Is that a -big- pile of fish in the Triton of Terror??!!

Ryan and Drew start tossing the TOT's fish.

Mike clicks away.

There were a lot to count......

The winner's 'circle'. No suprise about Slim's team or the Indy Boys... but what the heck is Rob doing there? Ryan and Drew must really be his secret weapons. (the rest of Slim's team (Kristina andBill) had to leave early)

Congrats!!

The board.

I can understand how we got beat by Team Shot n the Dark but how'd we get beat by both the Triton of Terror and The Carp-Enders?? [:@]

Snuffy wins the overall big fish pot with a 21+lb common carp. (he sure does know how to find the big ones)

Drew had never shot a tourney and never shot a gar before. He ends up shooting the winning gar and helping the TOTto it's third place finish!(and being under 18 he didn't even have to pay an entry fee) Pretty sweet.

Thisspotted garwas just over 39" and weighed a hair over 10lbs. (it looks tiny next to Drew)

To make sureDrew got the total experience, we then put him to work cleaning gar.

(He wore out before he got all 757 gar cleaned but he did get a nice pile of fillets.)

Somewhere there should be a picture of Steve with his winning bowfin but I don't have it. [:-]

Kendall and I got into some big carp. While our biggest was only 18 1/2 lbs, we averaged about 11-12lb fish. The boat got overloaded pretty fast tho'.

Great job everybody!

Billy's missing presence was just as hard if not harder this year. We sure do miss him.

Again, thanks everybody! You guys and gals are what make this event so enjoyable.

I talked to Kendall this afternoon, and all I can say is that I'm insanely jealous!!!!!![:'(] 1300 fish!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad you all had a good time for a great cause!!!!!!!!!!

By the way, Ken and I did actually have a date Saturday night (We didn't kiss on the first date, I'm pretty conservative!) and yes we did shoot some commons and a quillback. NO

I love shooting gar with the way they appear and disappear without warning.

There are just a ton of gar down there, spotted and shortnose.
It really is a different world from up here by Chicago where some guys have never even seen them, and others talk about them as if they were endangered. I think we shot more gar than carp, and it may have been a 2 to 1 ratio if we could have hit all those skinny suckers.

One big spotted grabbed onto my line in the barrel, and it took me several minutes to get him to let go. I had to get a bit persuasive. He didn't have much left to lose, so he made it interesting for me.

Great weather, great BBQ, tons of fish, great bunch of people. I feel sorry for the people that didn't make it. I think Billy would have been proud and felt that he was on my boat the short time that I was on the water. I would like to thank the Davis's and the Trotter family for cooking the food, Slim and Alex for fish disposal, All the officers and Joanne, Mike Hooe from the DNR and whomever else I missed. Without all your help it would be impossible to put on such a great event. I believe that this is possible the best small tournament in the USA. I would like to see it grow next year to at least 25 boats. Speciall thanks to the BAA and Mark Lee for there support.

Wow! What a fun weekend! The weather was perfect, the lake was beautiful, and the fish we're plentiful. I took my first shortnose and spotted gar and my biggest common carp to date. Thanks so much to everyone that organized this thing and helped make it run so smoothly! Count me in every year!
