Default 2006 Gun Deer Contest Official Rules

1. Teams will be drawn at random. This means I will draw members from a hat to make teams. Teams will not be loaded up by state by doing so. However the draw works out is how it works out.

2. Deer must be taken legally and ethically as laws apply to the state you are hunting in. The laws as apply to the state you are hunting in must be followed for type of firearm used.

3. Legal firearms only, no bow kills. There is a bowhunting contest in the Bowhunting forum.

4. Antlered deer only including antlered doe(if its tagged with a buck tag).

5. Boone and Crockett scoring system.......GROSS SCORE WITH NO DEDUCTIONS. Link will be provided. Total number of inches will determine the winning team.

6. 10 persons per team, an alternate will be provided to fill out teams. Alternates will be used to replace members who do not check in with their team after a reasonble amount of time to be determined. If enough alternates are signed in after replacing a member, more teams will be added.

7. An official scorecard thread will be started and all entries will post a picture of themselves with the deer, the deer tagged if state laws for tags apply AND the firearm used must be in the picture!!!!!!!! No exceptions!

8. You must enter the first or second gun kill antlered deer..but only one!!!

9. Deer must be taken by fair chase...no penned deer accepted.

10. Any and all disagreements will be decided upon by team captains and moderators.

11. Scoring using the Boone and Crockett system with NO deductions! Gross score counts! The following system for determining score for whitetails and other species:

Whitetail score X 1. Example 125 inches X 1 = 125 final score
Columbia Blacktail score X 1.39. Example 125 inches X 1.39= 175.75 final score
Sitka Blacktail score X 1.67. Example 125 inches X 1.37= 208.75 final score
Mule Deer score X 0.86. Example 125 inches X 0.86= 107.5 final score

.....
This is your contest...........and discussion involving rule changes or additions should be posted here.

I feel you should be able to enter your first or second buck whatever you choose. I like the system the way it is cause my first deer is usually the smaller one lol.

I dont care if they enter a 1st or 2nd deer. After all, its all for fun. Im only allowed 1 buck, but I dont mind because I plan for that buck to be a biggun

When does the contest end?
It will end when every state's legal firearm season is over. Most states have different dates, just depends upon which state you hunt.

Just so everyone understands, you can be entered into both the bow contest AND the gun contest. But the deer must be taken with the firearm during the firearm season and entered into the firearm contest of course.

Aye, just a repeat of the above question - is this a whitetail only competition, or can mule deer/coues deer/black tail deer be entered?
